The two highest profile transfers in Orange County girls basketball are ineligible as of right now, CIF-SS spokesman Thom Simmons confirmed on Monday.
UCLA-bound Nirra Fields, whose legal guardian is Los Angeles Lakers coach Mike Brown, enrolled at Mater Dei and turned in a valid residential change of address transfer, which was denied by CIF-SS. The next option for Fields, a member of the Canadian national team who played for Oak Hill Academy of Mouth of Wilson, Va., last season, is to apply for a hardship transfer.
“We still haven’t received any paperwork from them,” Simmons said.
Jeanier Olukemi, a two-time All-County forward for Brea Olinda, transferred to Sonora in the spring. Olukemi’s hardship transfer was denied and she has applied for an appeal, which is pending.
