Mater Dei senior forward Xavier Johnson today committed to Colorado.
Mater Dei coach Gary McKnight said Colorado’s upcoming inclusion in the Pac-12 was a strong factor in Johnson’s choice. Johnson had offers, too, from a long list of schools.
Johnson, 6-7, was All-Orange County first team last year when he averaged 20 points a game. He attended Chaparral of Temecula as a freshman and sophomore.
Johnson is a long-armed lefty who can slash and has a good shooting touch from the 12-15 range. Three players are the early-early leaders for county player of the year for the 2011-12 season: Johnson, Mater Dei teammate Katin Reinhardt and Orange Lutheran’s Gabe York … that’s in alphabetical order, so relax.
