OCVarsity Girls Hoops: Troy shows evidence of botched call (video)

March 9th, 2011, 9:16 pm · · posted by

Last week, Troy fell to Edison in the Division 1A championship by a single point. That one point should not have counted. Bonnie Samuelson’s miraculous game-winning shot should have been a game-tying shot.

Troy’s head coach Roger Anderson and Troy players Briana Roberson and Gabriella Hanson recall their tough loss in the championship game, and preview their upcoming second round matchup.

Also, what challenges await Mater Dei, Brea Olinda, and Orange Lutheran?

Steve Fryer and Carlos Arias breakdown the SoCal Regionals from Troy high school (click here for boys hoops video).

Give both teams credit – Edison for making the last shot after stealing the ball and Troy for battling back against not only Edison to get the lead but the poorly one-side officiated game.

I believe the referees where not used to calling a tenacious defensive style of game which Troy plays coupled with a lot of non calls for Edison (i.e., travel, carries, and fouls). Troy needed to make the adjustments before one of their star players fouled out early in the second half but did not. Give Edison credit for playing to what the referees where giving them.

However, if Troy immediately recognized the one-point scoring issue by the officials right after the first quarter , which they did – it should have been reviewed by the officials at that time instead of doing nothing and giving Troy lip service, especially in a high caliber championship game such as this with two equally balanced teams. These types of games are usually decided by one point at the end and require all officials in attendance to be on top of the situation at all times. This controversy is sad for both teams because we never will know the true winner of this hard fought contest.

Once again, I give Edison a lot of credit for making that tough shot at the end to send it into overtime…

First of all that was the greatest game and best play I’ve seen in a llong time and I’ve been following girls and boys in OC for many years.

But this continual whining by Troy is “ridiculous”. You play the game at hand and the winner was Edison, shoulda, woulda and coulda doesn’t mean anything. What were the excuses when Edison beat Troy in the first game which I think was on Troys home court by double digits.

Above is corect, there were many things missed in that game and #24s continual traveling was one of them, in fact the refs called some traveling on edison that weren’t even traveling, I being a foul by Troy. The refs actually let a lot go in the 2nd half and the game was eventually decided by the girls on the court as neither coach was making a difference.

Good job Edison girls and well played Troy girls but Edison won bothe games and they will have the banner, and the negative comments by Troy particularly against Edison girls just makes people like you less.

  • Question says:

What negative comments are you talking about? And especially what comments toward Edison girls?

    Hey bobhuskey!
It’s like this.IRS tells you that you owe them $1000 in back taxes, right?.You pay the $1000 and later you find out that you only owed them $100,No biggy right? You just leave it alone, right?

To LOL. Again, I do’t know about Troy but my comment was aimed at the Edison program. I have seen and know of their program. If Troy does the same thing it substantiates what I said re: high school athletics. It is in a sad state.

  • LOL says:

OK dr I get you, but probably a bad finger pointing when the Troy program doesn’t have 1 kid that lives in their district, as it sounds like the frying pan calling the kettle black ;)

    • glass half full says:

thanks LOL.my point exactly.but for some reason Im being bloked again and for what all my coments have been contructive and positive.I guess erline tarbutt is an obama agent.

      • glass half full says:

p/s I do think #10 and #31 do live in fullerton, but the rest ?.but in troys defense the open enrollment is what it is and they come in as frosh so its something we have do deal with in freeway just like in football.but the Dr has apoint when a transfer comes in at their junior or senior year, with out cif investigating.in the case of edisons big girl leaving eldo after soph year.how does a family pack up and move in 3mos from one district to another in todays economy.and why? what about the kids friends shes grown up with.I think this transfer thing has gotten way bigger than cif imagined and now its to big for them to control.we could go on and on but you could fill a library.
