Notre Dame’s official website, und.com, is reporting that Servite’s Troy Niklas has sent in his letter of intent to the Fighting Irish, picking Notre Dame over USC.
Niklas had said he would announce his choice this afternoon, but Notre Dame’s live Signing Day site reports that his letter was received by fax this morning.
“He gives us another great player,” Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly said on the website. “He can play a number of positions. Right now his profile puts him on defense.”
Niklas, who had been Orange County’s top uncommitted recruit, made his official visit to Notre Dame last weekend, one week after visiting USC. He also had considered Stanford until he was not admitted to the school.
“This is a great case of getting somebody up on that last weekend to Notre Dame,” Kelly said. “And Notre Dame getting a great player because of it.”
Read about how Niklas made his decision.
