Girls soccer: Monday’s recap

With tournament action in full swing around the county, here is a quick glance at some of Monday’s action.

In the Aliso Cup:

No. 1 Esperanza 1, Ayala 0: Junior Paulina Good recorded the only goal of the match midway through the second half, as the Aztecs (2-0) recorded the win over the Bulldogs in Pool H action at Ayala High. Goalies Alyssa Giannetti and Kelly Lucas combined for five saves in the shutout.

No. 7 Edison 2, JSerra 0: Junior Angelisa Cortez and freshman Mackenzie Cerda scored goals for the Chargers, who defeated the Lions (0-1) in a Pool C game at JSerra High. Senior goalie Shelby Karal had four saves for Edison.

Dana Hills 3, Newport Harbor 1: Junior Lynsey Gaines scored two of the Dolphins three second half goals, as Dana Hills (1-0-1) posted the win over the Sailors in a Pool D match at Dana Hills High. Sophomore Emma Gullickson also scored for Dana Hills. Junior Josie Jogwe recorded her fourth goal of the season for Newport Harbor.

Etiwanda 2, Orange Lutheran 1: Despite the third goal of the season from sophomore Mikaela Truckey and seven saves from junior goalie Corey Tobin, the visiting Lancers (1-1) fell to the Eagles in a Pool A match.

In the Ocean View Tournament:

Rosary 1, Huntington Beach 0: Junior Tayler Dragoo recorded her sixth goal of the season in the first half to guide the Royals (4-1-1) past the Oilers at Ocean View High. Earlier, Rosary played Valencia (2-0-1) to a scoreless tie also at Ocean View High.

In the Westminster Classic:

Santa Ana 2, Westminster 1: Junior Aileen Ortiz and freshman Stephanie Navarette scored goals for the visiting Saints (5-0) who defeated the Lions (4-2) for the second time in three days. Sophomore Rochelle Camarena scored her third goal of the season for Westminster.

In nonleague action:

Canyon 1, Cypress 0: Junior Taylor Alderete recorded the lone goal of the match in the second half, as the host Comanches (1-1) slipped past the Centurions.
