Fresh off its title at the Clovis Championships, San Clemente’s boys water polo team has surged to No. 11 in Orange County in the weekly Albano Top 25 Index.
But how long will the Tritons stay atop the perch? They play at No. 12 Dana Hills on Tuesday. Here’s the rest of my 11-25 rankings for Orange County boys water polo:
Albano Top 25 Index (9-20)
11. San Clemente (6-1)
12. Dana Hills (4-1-1)
13. El Modena (4-3)
14. JSerra (1-2)
15. Mission Viejo (1-1)
16. Irvine (5-1)
17. Esperanza (0-3)
18. Capistrano Valley (4-2)
19. University (6-1)
20. Northwood (0-2)
21. Aliso Niguel (6-2)
22. Santa Margarita (1-2)
23. Troy (3-4)
24. Fountain Valley (4-3)
25. Woodbridge (5-3)
Aliso should be a bit higher, JSerra a bit lower.
Of course this will even itself out over the next couple of weeks.
JSerra has one senior and mostly freshmen players who would play on frosh/soph teams. Take a look at JSerra’s schedule. Their coach has not set up too many games and no tournaments? The question is will they beat Bosco?
They start one senior(macrae carden) then 6 freshman. Of those 6 i would say only 4 would make a varsity team. There pretty good for being freshman. In 2 years Jserra will be back
Why is there only 1 senior?
I don’t see JSerra qualifying for CIF for quite some time.
The coach will most likely be gone after the Carden graduates.
No coach Asic will stay for along time. He has a good thing going at Jserra with orange county waterpolo club feeding into his program. There just 2 years away from being really competitive again with so much inexperience at the moment
I agree that Aliso should be ranked higher. Especially with the release of the CIF rankings that has Aliso ranked 4th in D3.
Looking forward to the SC DH game today at Dana. Great rivals and both quality teams…
A lot of teams with some weird and crazy loses. Northwood with two loses; doesn’t translate to really knowing where they are. Esperanza with three and the same issue. Foothill win over CDM.
Besides a few teams; most of the teams are starting 3 to 4 Juniors and Sophmores (even Freshman). The star Seniors will all do well this year. However, this is the year where Junior and Sophmore players can make a difference in the WIN column.
The teams that can play like a UNIT and have good supporting cast of starting young players will do well and last long in the CIF Playoffs this year.
Irvine with a lot of talent losing to MV last week. El Modena with limited talent winning games.
This tournament weekend, it will be exciting to see who wins and loses.
100% correct Splashball.
Unranked Edison beat BOTH #20 Northwood 9-8 AND #11 San Clemente in the South Coast Tournament today. Tough week for San Clemente.
