Santa Margarita sophomore Beau Hossler and Jonathan Sanders were tied for first after 54 holes at Maderas Golf Club in Poway, both carding a 4-under 212 during the AJGA Emerson Junior Golf Classic.
But Sanders holed a 6-foot birdie putt on his first playoff hole, and Hossler had to settle for second place. He was one of three OC players to place in the top 12 as Los Al’s Daniel Lee (219) and Estancia’s Jake Knapp (220) tied for 10th and 12th respectively.
Hossler has had quite a summer. He won the Trader Joe’s Junior Championship and the Stockton Sports Commission Junior Open to move up to 27th place in the Polo golf rankings.
In the girls division at the Emerson Classic, Los Alamitos sophomore Esther Lee won her second tournament of the summer, beating Brea’s Amy Lee by eight strokes.
Lilia Vu of Fountain Valley placed fourth with a 6-over 222 (79-73-70), and Beckman’s Kaitlin Park took fifth (223). Mission Viejo High’s Amy Alston placed 12th at 229.
