La Habra quarterback Cody Clements has committed to Washington St., Highlanders coach Frank Mazzotta confirmed.
Clements will be a senior in the fall. He was earned first team All-Freeway League honors last season, leading the Highlanders to the CIF-SS Southwest Division title.
Clements completed 62.8 percent of his passes last season (120-191) for 2,095 yards, 29 touchdowns and five interceptions
congrats, he is gonna be a beast next year
Washington St. needs all the help it can get.
Congrats Cody, the cougs are getting a fine QB and great person!
While it is an honor to receive and except a football scholorship to any PAC 10 school this might be premature. La Habra & Cody Clements have every opportunity to shine this year with their team & schedule. I know that verbal commitments don’t mean much these days (Because kids break them all the time) but they should. With that said, why not play out the season and then make a decision on solid ground? A decision you will not have to retract because a better opportunity came later? This way I think Cody sells himself short because Washington State is not getting better anytime soon and if things play out well this upcomming season the upper echelon of the Pac 10 could open up to him and he wouldn’t have to break a verbal commitment in order to take it?
I disagree. It is a great oportunity for Clements to make a difference at a school that has struggled in conference play for a long time. He can do for WSU what Jake Plummer did for ASU.
While Mr Clements is a fine young man, and he really seems to be,he is not a Div. 1 QB. Yet. He may develope but right now against better teams he is unable to throw with any accuracy past 15 yrds. I have seen him on many occations over throw wide open rec’s. Last year he was never really tested and still did’nt show any real passing ability that would ever stand up to the monsters on Div 1 defenses. Good luck though, I wish you well.
The guy was never really tested?, not accurate? – Clements threw 29 TD’s (two in the CIF championship game), he had thrown more TD’s then any other QB in the county, including Farjado. Hmmm, you just can’t please everyone I guess.
Good luck to him at WSU, the cougars got a good player. Plus, he has a real shot at getting some playing up there at Pullman.
I often read what is written by bloggers and rarely leave a reply. To be honest, sometimes I have to laugh. Can’t believe the amount of ‘hater-rade’ being consumed by some bloggers. You know who you are…enough said.
UHW, you speak the truth as you are a man with plenty of useful knowledge.
Anyhow, I wish Cody the best luck in his Senior season leading the CLAN on the field and in his future as a WSU Cougar(although I may have to cheer against you when you play ASU). With college plans set, you can concentrate on leading your team to another CIF title. It has been a pleasure watching you.
As good as Cody was last year, he has more experienced receivers and more receiving options this year. A lot of training and football camps have passed since his great victory in the rain last December. By the end of this season, he will be more than ready to move on to WSU. Congradulations Cody!!!
Best of Luck to Cody
The true test for him will be when he gets under center and he does not have “Juice” lined up behind him
Baller, you may not have thought much of him, but obviously there are many others that think otherwise. Any Kid that gets a D1 offer has to have something that makes him better than “average”.
I think I will rely on the ability of the “others” in evaluating if he has the skills and mental toughness to make it in Div 1 football.
Just a note about being tested,
Jimmy Clausen was never in his HS football career “tested” against any team. Set all those records almost exclusively against Div X teams who were never in the top 125( thats right, not top 10, not top 50, not even top 100), but somehow was rated as the No 1 HS QB.
29 TD’S PLEASE. AT LEAST 21 AGAINST FREEWAY LEAGUE OPPONENTS I BET WITHOUT LOOKING. LH FAN YOUR AS BAD AS SERVITE FAN. ALWAYS CALLING HONEST OPINION HATEFUL. I HAVE NO REEASON TO DISLIKE HIM AS I BELIEVE I STATED. TAKE IT AS YOU LIKE. IGNORANCE IS BLISS. SEE ALOT OF THAT FROM LH FAN THOUGH
As mentioned above…i am real interested to see how he plays this year without Quezada in the backfield…we all seen it..8 in the box for more than 80% of the offensive plays last year…when he was throwing his accuracy was a little better than average…also benefitted from having a polished great hands receiver in Gonzales..and speedster Salo…and a under-rated but fantastic O line…so although i respect his talent..i do have a couple questions marks and this season will most def answer them..with Servite..OLu, and La Mirada on tap we will all have a better opinion of his talent and how he handles it without the benefit of the All-everything Josh Quezada…his O line will be solid again but expect more blitzes and nickel packages..and with being announced…the scholarship and all..well the dogs will on the hunt…big time…can he handle the pressure???..time will tell….
Wow, the Opinions or Hate never stops, such is life. LH did lose a couple of jems from last seasons C.I.F. CHAMPIONSHIP team, but Have alot coming back, as you can see in the “Battle at the beach”. In the “juices”
words from last year La Habra reloads, not rebuild. Clements does have
accuracy and does throw the deep ball well, if anyone thinks otherwise please see his youtube video. “baller”- somehow i doubt you are, or were.
We love the hate and opinions, keep em coming. LH is building on what could be a historic season. Good kids, great coaching, La Habra will take what you giive them. 5, 10, 20, TD’S it’s all good. Good luck CLAN!
DANGEROUS D THE ONLY THING PEOPLE HATE IS FOOLS THAT BLINDLY FOLLOW WITHOUT REASONING. I SAW YOUR QB 5 TIMES LAST YEAR. GREAT KID, VERY, VERY AVG QB. BY THE WAY I HAVE COACHEING QB’S FOR MORE YEARS THAN YOU HAVE BEEN WATCHING FOOTBALL. PLEASE STOP TRYING TO FLATTER YOURSELF.
PS THE HATE STUFF IS REAL OLD AND MAKES YOU SOUND IGNORANT
Baller sounds like a grumpy old man, per his comment “I HAVE COACHING QB’s FOR MORE YEARS THAN YOU HAVE BEEN WATCHING FOOTBALL.” Shouldn’t you be nice to the QB’s on here so you can try to earn more coaching business? Thank God he is not Cody’s QB coach, because Cody would be as illiterate (on the field) as him! Go Clan!
Was Servite excluded from passing league due to lack of passing game?
MY MISTAKE FOR NOT PROOF READING QB COACH. YOUR MISTAKE FOR NOT READING. LH FANS ARE BECOMING MORE IGNORANT WITH EVERY BLOG. IT IS FUN WATCHING YOU GUYS SHOW YOUR HATERED TOWARDS OPINIONS THOUGH. OK, YOU WIN CODY IS THE GREATEST QB IN ORANGE COUNTY. IN THE GAMES I SAW HIM PLAY THOUGH HE WASNT ABLE TO DO THINGS USUALLY ASSOCIATED W DIV 1 QBS. BTW, BEING A LH HOMER DOESNT MAKE YOU A REAL QB COACH. IF YOU WERE YOU WOULD SEE WHAT I AND OTHERS DO. IM GOOD W GO CLAN. GOOD LUCK CODY LIKE I SAID IN MY FIRST WRITINGS
Passing games don’t mean nothing, because there is no pressure coming from lineman, linebackers, safeties, etc. As long as anyone graduates with their college degree that’s all that matters, why? Because as little as 1% make a living in the NFL. Therefore your education is the key.
Ok MR. BALLER I’ll bite, what are you eluding to when you say that Cody doesn’t do the things associated with D1 Qbs. Someone mentioned to watch Cody’s Hi-lite video on You tube. I watched it and was impressed with his ability to throw the short pass just as well as the deep ball to #7. He also created many problems for defenses with his scrambling abilities. Coach Baller please enlighten us with your expertise on what makes a great D1 Qb prospect.
you better hope so with that d-line youve got to coach,ha, ha, ha!!!!Easye.
lets just remember…football is a team sport..lets not give cody all the credit…it he wants all the credit for the victories.then he better be able to handle the defeats. Passing leagues is just what it is…stay humble and lets not beleive in all the hype… Keep in mind that team is loaded with talent….Could cody get those stats without his offensive line?? with Casey and Peko- the top olineman to come out of LH and lets not forget the most underrated center-Elkington who happens to be the brains of the whole offense..LH could not handle or read Los Al defence last year because Elk didn’t play. last years defense..just awesome. Then there is Bartolone….he will be the brake-out star. lets just keep it in perspective..and take one game at a time.
I dont think anyone is giving Cody all the credit Just a Teacher, nor is Cody trying to take all, or any for the matter, of the credit for their wins. This post is about Cody though, and that is why all the comments are about him.
Cody is the QB, (like on all teams), and is just one of the most pivotal parts of any Offense.
Not sure what game you saw last year if you saw it at all…Los Alamitos defense played well against La Habra no doubt about it…BUT.La Habra had one of them games….at least 4 dropped balls..2 by the sure hands of Gonzales.not graduated…Quezada was banged up and not 100%…these arent excuses just facts…Clements granted was a 1st year stater and prolly a bit nervous ..im not sure..but La Habra stopped themselves in crucial moments..it wasnt Los Al D that stopped the Clan..so if you think otherwise…well watch the tape bro….
HEY NO FACTS, THANKS FOR MAKING MY POINT ABOUT LH BLOGGERS. IM NOT SURE IF YOUR CAPABLE OF COMPREHENDING WHAT PEOPLE ACTUALLY WRITE BUT TRY AGAIN. GO BACK TO MY FIRST BLOG AND TELL ME WHAT WAS SO HATEFUL. ITS A GOOD THING I HAVE BEEN TO MANY LH GAMES AND KNOW THAT THEIR REAL FANS ARE REALLY NICE. JUST A TEACHER, WHAT A GREAT TAKE. SAME WITH YOU BIGHSFBFAN. IF CODY DIDNT GO TO LH ID SAY THE SAME THING. IM SURE HE WILL DO GREAT. WE WILL SEE. NO FACTS, LIKE I SAID 20 TD PASSES IN THE FREEWAY LEAQUE REALLY SAYS NOTHING. I SAW THE SUNNY HILLS QB AND WAS IMPRESSED WITH HIS ABILITIES BUT THE BEST QB IN THE FREEWAY LAST YEAR TALENT WISE WAS THE KID FROM FULLERTON. IF HE HAD LH LINE HE WOULD HAVE THROWN FOREVER. YOU REALLY THINK HES THAT GOOD HOW DOES HE STACK UP IN TOUGHER LEAGUES. HE DID HAVE SOME DROPPED PASSES AGAINST LA BUT HE LOOKED JUMPY IN THE POCKET THE WHOLE GAME. HE’LL GET BETTER, PAC 10 WE’LL SEE.
Yo Baller…dont trip…you remarks in my book were not hateful in anyway…just stating your opinion…and i definetly read that you respect the kid…hope the best for him but like me have a couple question marks…and i dont take alot of stock in the 7 on 7 tourney…good competition yes…but gameday competiton…no way…im a huge LH fan and hope they keep gaining the respect the program has earned…bit to just hand this kisd a D-1 scholarship this early…well as it sits now in my book its a reach..i do hope i have an differnt opinion after 4-tough games this up-coming year…but until then i stand by my opinion..and thats all it is just an opinion…im certainly no expert but i do see what i watch…and understand the game….Peace to all you fans…and layoff Baller he did nuttinwrong….
First thing first.. Baller you need to settle down. Highschool is a whole lot different than college. Just because some one is a stud in highschool doesn’t mean that they are a shoe in too be a stud. With that being said just because someone is average or under the radar doesn’t mean that they are going to struggle in D -1 ball. I have seen plenty of 4 and 5 star rated players amount to nothing in college.
I am a OC highschool grad and an alum of Washington State University. CTR I highly doubt that you know much of anything about WSU besides what you hear on ESPN, so you need to do your homework. I am not saying they are going to be on top of the PAC -10 tomorrow but they are going to drastically improve over the next three years and that is not just me being a homer, that is me being a fan of PAC-10 football and knowing what I am talking about.
I am happy to have a player like Cody Clements, and ever more happy that all of the other PAC – 10 schools are going to miss out. The kid is legit hands down. Cody welcome to the cougar nation!!!
