A highly distinguished soccer season in Orange County was well-represented among the 2009-10 ESPN RISE Girls Soccer Winter All-American selections.
Santa Margarita junior Lauren Bohaboy was one of three forwards selected to the first team. The Register’s Girls Soccer Player of the Year scored a school-record 28 goals, helping Santa Margarita win the Trinity League title.
Esperanza head coach John King, the county’s Coach of the Year, was also selected as the top coach of the year by ESPN RISE.
King guided the Aztecs’ to 27-0-4 record and Division 1 titles at the CIF Southern Section and the CIF Southern California Regional Championships.
Aztecs senior Katie Gallanes, the CIF-SS Division 1 Defensive Player of the Year and a first team all-county pick was selected as a defender for the second team, while Newport Harbor senior Elizabeth Eddy (second team all-county) was among four forwards picked.
The third team included San Clemente junior midfielder Frannie Coxe, (CIF-SS Division 1 Offensive Player of the Year and first team all-county), Beckman senior forward Tawni Martino (CIF-SS Division 2 Offensive Player of the Year and first team all-county), and Aliso Niguel senior goalie Kathleen Messinger (CIF-SS Division 1 first team and first team all-county).
