Aliso Niguel’s Melanie Klaren — The Register’s girls co-swimmer of the year with Edison senior Cindy Tran — and University’s Chris Wong are the OCVarsity.com junior swimmers of the year.
Klaren’s season hopefully has been well-documented.
Wong edges Pacific Coast League rival John Kim of Corona del Mar for the boys award. Wong claimed his first CIF Division 1 title by touching first in the 100 fly (49.39).
He also placed fourth in the 200 IM (1:51.04). Kim placed second in the IM but Wong is a little more versatile to take the award.
Wong led the county in the 100 backstroke (51.19) and holds the advantage on Kim in the 100 and 200 freestyles.
Where did 100 Free CIF champion Nick Soedel place in the voting amongst best juniors?
Nick Soedel should place 99 place on the voting list.
Sounds like “Stranger” is a Sunset League competitor from either Newport Harbor, Edison, or Los Alamitos HS. Just don’t tell Nick Soedel that you put him in 99th place…
Well, anyway, I guess that it wasdone based upon was rankings in different events unless like in the senior category you set a national record like Tran did. Most of these swimmers will probably be good college swimmers and probably unless in the case of boy swimmers that developed more in college than in high school not make either the world team or the oylmpics in 2012,though there is a freshman boy Burns and a couple of 13 year old girls that might have a chance in 2016.
Dan:
Good selections. Wong and Klaren dominated. Wong could place in any event at CIF.
We’ll see next year, when The Nick Soedel adds the 200 Free and 100 Fly to his repotoire…
