I watched as Matt tried desperately to beat Elias Gedyon at Mt. Sac. Coming off a steep hill, he slipped, fell, rolled, shredded, his shoulder, got back up, and still tried to beat Elias…. That is a warrior spirit!!! Go Matt!!!

they are both good athletes. I checked this site less than an hour ago and Matt had only 200 votes and now he has over 1000. I hope the Register looks into this. The one who has the most legit votes should win. Not the one whose friends figured out how to mass vote.

Really? Are you that baised? Come out and spend a week as a runner. Come run an 70 mile week. If you can survive then come talk to me. I’ve played several sports including football and all of them are difficult. But by far, the one that has made me sore for days on end is running. Cmon go run a sub 4:15 mile, sub 9:00 two mile, and sub 15:00 mile. Not likely now is it. Not everyone can run that. Its actually less than .5% of high school runners can do that. And for all who say this is rigged, no its not. Running is just bigger than you think. Ask Usain Bolt.

Matt just has more people backing him, it’s not rigged. There’s a lot of runners in orange county that are proud of all Matt has accomplished in the past two years, he is a nationally ranked runner. Runners don’t cheat, we work way to hard to cut corners =]

you guys have no clue what is happening. Their is a national running website that is linking to this page, telling people to vote for Matt. No one is voting twice there is just people voting for Matt all over the nation. He is a nationally recognized figure who has competed several times out of state. If only people in California are voting for Anthony he is going to get destroyed. This isn’t against the rules, if you are unhappy about tell all your friends on the football message boards to vote for Anthony.

Wow, great grammar, you are just as bad as the soccer mom… and may I ask how fast you can run a 5k in (3.1 miles)? Because Matt can do it in 14 minutes 42 seconds.

Just because a runner got more votes than a football player is no reason to complain. McElroy obviously has more support and is more well known. So don’t whine about how people are cheating. Get over it. You lose. Go back to the drawing board….or should I say playbook.
running all those cross country times is very hard yes but really Wilkerson is a way better athlete. He is a faster sprinter, he is stronger, plays multiple sports, which he is good at all of them, basketball, football, and track. He jumps higher, he is tougher. Cross country is not more popular than football either. Football is all over the media and there is a lot of money in Football. Wilkerson is the true athlete.

I do have to agree xc is not more popular than football. Football is more popular so Wilkerson should have far more votes even if he was not at the same level as Matt. However, Matt has made such an impact on a national level that he has obtained a level of achivement within his sport that Wilkerson has not. That was demonstrated with the votes.
last i checked running is an Olympic Sport – meaning “WORLD WIDE” and football is a speck in comparison. is it really surprising to me that to the football community running does not even register. i won’t called that ignorant (but a ducks a duck)(oopps! did i say that?) in fact you put one BIG TOE outside of the U.S. and football to the rest of the world is known as futbol (known as soccer to some). no offense, but true. so to understand running, one would understand Mcelroy’s accomplishment the sport and not just nationwide either.

Football is a team sport and same is x-country and track but in x-country and track you train and practice on your own and when you have the mentality to train and push yourself to be one of the best in the nation only on motivation from yourself keeping you alive i think that says a lot. Yeah being smart helps alot and Anthony going to Stanford is very excellent but comapring matt’s and his school in each sport and matt going to a team who won the national championship is a little more recongized.
