
Edison senior Cindy Tran and University sophomore Megan Rankin (left with Jared Namba) collected second-place finishes at the NCSA Junior Nationals in Orlando on Friday.
Representing West Coast Swimming in the club meet, Tran finished second in the 100-yard backstroke by clocking a 53.59, more than a second behind Rachel Bootsma of the Minnesota-based Aquajets. Tran also qualified to swim the 100 for a U.S. all-star team headed to the Irish nationalsĀ in late April.
Rankin, swimming for the Irvine Aquazot, place second in the 500 free with a 4:47.71, about three seconds behind winner Rachel Naurath of Nova of Virginia. Rankin also qualified for the Ireland trip.
In another top swim, JSerra’s Casey Mims placed third in the 200 breaststroke in 2:14.11.
