
The Women's Basketball Coaches Association has selected Brea Olinda girls basketball coach Jeff Sink as the 2010 Russell Athletic/WBCA National High School Coach of the Year.
By receiving this prestigious award Sink, who will lead the Ladycats against Mater Dei on Saturday for a berth in the state championship game, will serve as a head coach at the WBCA High School All-America Game on April 3 at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
"I am delighted to present Jeff Sink with the Russell Athletic/WBCA National High School Coach of the Year award," WBCA CEO Beth Bass said in a statement. "We are glad to reward the efforts of those who commit themselves professionally to the future of the women's game."
Sink has led Brea Olinda to state championships in 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2009 in his 16 years as the Ladycats head coach. Brea Olinda is 31-2 this season and plays Mater Dei in the CIF Southern California Division 2 regional finals on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Galen Center.
The Ladycats have won 10 CIF-SS championships during Sink's tenure, including the CIF-SS Division 2AA title this season.
Sink has over 30 years of coaching experience and is 690-142 for his career. He started his coaching career at Lathrop High of Fairbanks, Alaska, in 1980. His Lathrop teams went to the state Final Four 10 times and won two state championships.
Sink, who teached Advance Placement United States History at Brea Olinda, has been married to his wife, Cathy, for 34 years and they have one son, Ian, a graduate of Cal and UCLA.
