A day ago, Ryan Tetrault was a bit frustrated with his round, saying he left plenty of strokes out on the course. Needless to say the Villa Park junior wasn’t the Spartans’ medalist.
On Wednesday, he not only led his team to its fifth victory of the season, he did it in a manner the likes of which has never been seen before for a Villa Park boys golfer at Green River.
Tetrault shot a7-under a school-record 29 – YES 29 – to lead the Spartans to 175-191 victory against Edison. He holed three birdies and two eagles during his round. He was 5-under after just five holes.
“I did build momentum,” he said. “But I have been working hard with my swing and this is how it shows.”
Breaking 30, though, has become kind of common for Tetrault. This is the fourth time he has done it.
He shot a 29 on the front nine at Goosecreek last year en route to posting a 65 in qualifying for the LA Open. And then he’s done it twice messing around with his friends at Oak Creek.
Posting low scores like that, though, Tetrault said can make for a very stressful round.
“Sure, you feel pressure becasue you don’t want to let it get away and then have everyone ask you, ‘What happened?’ afterward,” he said.
