Newport Harbor junior defensive tackle JB Salem (6-4, 260) committed to Stanford on Friday, Sailors football coach Jeff Brinkley confirmed moments ago.
Salem is a two-year starter on defense for Newport Harbor.
“He’s a good player,” Brinkley said. “Extremely tough.”
Brinkley said Salem also attracted interest from Oregon State.
Is this player currently a senior or will be a senior next year?
He is class of 2011
Look for Newport harbor to have a good team this year
I agree, their defense could be one of the best in the county this!
county this year.
Wasn’t newport supposed to be good this year too? what happened to them? remember they have to get through edison and los al. I know edison will be down but ophrey and burks will get it done.
No newport was actally supposed to be down this year as they were senior dominated team the year before. As far as los al and edison go, Newport has beaten los al 3 years in a row now, check your facts. However you are right about Edison, they are the only team in the Sunset that Newport has not beaten, in fact they are the only team in the league that has a winning record vs. Newport. This year Newport will be a much stronger team as they have a lot of returning players with starting experience. my prediction is that Newport will be 1 of the top 5 teams in the county this coming season.
Newport and Los Al will be favored.
Edison will be solid but just got depleted majorly.
Los Al will be the team that they should have been this past season. Edison will battle and NPH will compete. Some kids run on the beach, while others lay there…..therein lies the difference.
Wha GUILDt? Do you think Brinkley got 200 wins by having his players lay on the beach? I am wondering why Los al will be “good” this year. Wasn’t their “great” defense of last season mostly seniors? And by the way after talking to my friend that knows about such things, Newport”s freshman have beaten Los Al’s for the past 3 years. The freshman are the building blocks of any program so clearly Newport has something to be excited about. However the great thing is, the kids will determine the outcome on the field.
