Top-ranked Esperanza captured the Redondo Tournament, while No. 8 Laguna Beach took the University Tournament title.
Esperanza defeated No. 5 Huntington Beach in the championship match, 25-23, 27-25. It was the second time the Aztecs beat the Oilers this week after the team’s met in the season opener Tuesday at Esperanza.
Huntington Beach defeated St. John Bosco, which is ranked No. 4 in CIF Division I, in the semifinal, 21-25, 25-19, 15-10. Another note of interest, Servite defeated Mater Dei in two games.
Redondo All-Tournament team included these county players: Chris Hartig MVP, Brett Anderson, Chris Dreim, Ben Hunt, Tyler Kulakowski and Nick Iorfino.
Laguna Beach beat Laguna Hills and Beckman, before defeating Claremont in the finals.
More from the boys volleyball blog:
looks like servite may take a top ten spot in OC. They hung with Esperanza loosing 25 23 and 25 21 and beating Mater Dei in 2. Thoughts?
Servite is going to get my vote at the No. 10 spot this week.
yea i agree and they hung with esperanza without their top middle.
Esperanza was missing their #1 Outside Hitter (Tyler Russie) who has fracture in his right hand and they still dominated the tournament while giving the secong string players tons of playing time. Esperanza is the team to beat this year!!
Coulson was hurt for the Esperanza game and will be out for a while with a hurt ankel. I think that Servite may have pushed them to 3 with Coulson. Stat leaders that game include:
Jabour with 11 kills
Hunt with 7 kills
Kustura with 22 assists
Windisch with 8 digs
Espy was also missing their best outside, so I don’t think that kid woulve made a difference.
what happened to Coulson? Hope he is not out for extended period of time.
This weekend is going to be huge test for SoCal volleyball with the best of the west tournament. too bad Esperanza is not going
He may not play in Best of the West right now he is treating it as a sprain but he is waiting for the radiologists to get back to him
I guess as long as he is healthy for league they will be fine. Time for some young guys to step up.
Esperanza is missing there top outside also. Anyone know why?
I heard he hurt his hand
Tyler Russie, outside hitter for EHSVB has a fracture in his right (hitting) hand. Should be back at full strength next week.
ESPN Rise top 50 (preseason)

13- Mater dei

Wheres Edison or Huntington Beach?
Servite steped up in The Redondo Tourney. Beating Mater Dei is a monkey off their back.
Their libero is really developing he’s only a jumior and should be all league next year.if he gets in a tougher club team.
I did hear that Mater Dei wasn’t playing with its normal starting lineup. I heard they were playing some guys out of position. Anyone have thoughts on that?
Servite didnt even have the starting lineup in. They had the young sophmores playing while Materdei still had starters in.
servite had one starter in and that was their setter
Thanks for that.
Check in soon to see if Servite was able to crack the top 10 or not.
will do… the list comes out tomorrow right?
Actually, this week the top 10 won’t appear in print because of baseball and softball previews.
It will be up on OCVarsity.com within an hour, however.
Any word when the whole all tournament team from Redondo is going to be released? Would love to see all the names
The Redondo coach only emailed the OC guys on the team. I will see if I can get all the names for you.
