The boys volleyball preseason top 10 countdown is complete. To check it out click here.

The season preview is also out. Click here for it.

Here’s why the teams are stacked where they are:

1. Esperanza (Sunset): No team went deeper in the playoffs that returns more starters than the Aztecs. Therefore, they get the county’s top spot to begin the season.

2. Corona del Mar (Pacific Coast): The Sea Kings won’t lack talent, but they could take time to find their chemistry. The team returns 3 starters. With many high-level club players on the roster, team is going to be a force come playoff time.

3. Edison (Sunset): Chargers lost to a tough Santa Barbara team in the 2nd round of the playoffs on the road. They lose just one starter and could be the county’s tallest team.

4. Newport Harbor (Sunset): Sailors are always in the top 10. They return plenty of players, and are sure to be motivated by last year’s first-round playoff exit.

5. Huntington Beach (Sunset): Oilers lost two valuable starters, their libero and setter. The fact the team is ranked No. 5 shows the type of hitters the team has returning.

6. Orange Lutheran (Trinity): Lancers return four starters from a solid squad. Figure to be balanced in the middle and outsides.

7. Santa Margarita (Trinity): Eagles have a strong case to be ranked higher than they are. They lost just one starter off last year’s team, but it was the team’s best player. Plus, with the addition of a new coach, Eagles need to prove they belong in the top 5.

8. Laguna Beach (Orange Coast): Breakers are another team that could make an argument for the top 5. They return lots of talents. Breakers face Newport Harbor this week, so team could jump in ranking with win there.

9. Mater Dei (Trinity): No team lost more than the Monarchs? But they stay in the top 10 because they do have some players back that reached the CIF finals last season. Experience like that has to count for something.

10. San Clemente (South Coast): Tritons lost almost as much as Mater Dei, but still has pieces from last year’s team. San Clemente could surprise some teams this year.

Others: Mission Viejo, Aliso Niguel, Servite, Foothill, Tesoro

it is always the same teams in the preseason top 10 every year… what do each one of these coaches vote for each other… do some research

    • Homer:

I didn’t see which teams you feel belong in the top 10? The coaches don’t have a vote in the preseason poll.
I would like to know what research you feel was lacking from this preseason top 10 so in the future I can plug in what was missing and improve my job performance.

      Thank you

I think beckman should at least be under others… we are overlooked so far but definitely deserve to have our name out there…
