The top-ranked Monarchs opened up the Orange Holiday Classic with a 101-30 victory over Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Montebello and the game wasn’t even that close. The Monarchs went on a 39-0 run and led 48-7 at halftime. Yes, the game was 9-7 at one point in the first quarter.
Here are some numbers:
Cantwell shot 11.1 percent (3 for 27) from the field in the first half. Cantwell shot 28 percent in the second half.
Mater Dei shot 63.5 percent in the first half and 59.5 in the second half. Five Monarchs hit double figures. Gary Franklin, Katin Reinhardt and Keala King had 14, Tyler Lamb scored 13 and Josh Cook had 10. Twelve players scored at least one point
Next up for the Monarchs will be La Habra. The Highlanders defeated Orange, 69-33 in a first round game.
