Servite’s season continues.
The newly crowned CIF-SS Pac-5 Division champion likely earned a spot in a state bowl game after defeating Edison in Saturday’s championship game, but didn’t know if it would be in the Open or Division II game. (Click here for the release of all state games)
Servite (13-1) was selected for the Division II state bowl game and will play Rocklin (14-0), who was the Northern California choice and is the CIF Sac-Joaquin Division II winner after beating Del Oro of Loomis in Friday’s final.
The Division II game is at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Home Depot Center in Carson.
Announcements were to be made by the CIF state officials at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, however, Servite coach Troy Thomas found out earlier in the day the season wasn’t over.
“We knew we had a chance, but it wasn’t guaranteed,” Thomas said about the team’s hopes after defeating Edison on Saturday night. “We felt like we would get one of the two, especially after Oaks Christian lost. That helped us out.
“I’m excited to get one extra week with this group. They are a pleasure to coach.”
After the victory over Edison, Thomas said he didn’t know what the coaches and players were going to do for the state bowl games announcement Sunday afternoon. The coach did, however, have the week of practice planned in case Servite beat Edison and earned a bowl game selection.
Servite will practice as normal for a Saturday game. That means taking Monday off, and going hard Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
Thomas and members of the coaching staff met at Servite on Sunday afternoon, but Thomas was out to eat with his family when he received the news from athletic director Alan Clinton about the team’s selection.
“We were hoping to get one more week,” Thomas said. “This is a special group. We look forward to being together for one more game. We know it’s the final game. We are going to enjoy it and cherish it all week long and every step of the way.”
Edison was favored for the Open Division game until losing to Servite. Teams have to win their sectional title to be eligible for state bowl games.
The combined losses of Edison and Oaks Christian made the selection committees possible choices more up in the air. The Open Division game then seemed to come down between Servite and Crenshaw of Los Angeles.
Crenshaw has been ranked ahead of Servite in Division II for most of the season, and its undefeated run made it the team for the Open Division game, where they will face De La Salle of Concord. There was hope that De La Salle would have a showdown with Servite, but it didn’t work out that way.
There weren’t any Servite players at the high school Sunday, but it surely didn’t take them long to find out. Linebacker Matt Inman – who according to Thomas took a break from doing his homework – texted Thomas to find out the news, and Thomas called to deliver it.
“With the way the communication works nowadays, probably everybody knows about it,” Thomas said.
It’s all good! Go Friars!
it’s all about o side
Fantastic job Friars! What a season and what a game last night! Few expected you to get this far. Playing for State Div. II is awesome!
Troy Thomas good luck!!!! Hal will be watching you guys.
Servite should play Crenshaw the following week just to find out who the best in SoCal really is
Crenshaw would rip servite a new butt hole
“Meet me in the mall,it’s goin’ down. Meet me in the club,it’s goin’ down. Anywhere we meet, guaranteed it’s going down.” Rasfushia is that you?
FACTS:
Crenshaw:
They played 2 teams which are ranked in the top 1000 in the country. Those teams being Lakewood and Norco whom lost in the playoffs. Lakewood being the best team and was beaten by Edison.
Servite:
They played 10 teams ranked in the top 1000 in the country. 8 of those teams are actually ranked in the top 500. And the best stat of all is that 3 of those teams were ranked in the top 14 in the country.
The fact that Crenshaw was picked as the best team in SoCal is absolutely rediculous. They will get pummeled by Concord.
I am not trying to take anything away from what Crenshaw did but they have proven nothing and their schedule speaks for itself.
The fact that CIF disregarded Servite’s strength of schedule makes me think they were being politically correct and just doing what California does best, giving handouts.
GO SERVITE… You guys deserved it. Your schedule was brutal and you guys are the by far the best team in SoCal and most likely the counrty.
“And the best stat of all is that 3 of those teams were ranked in the top 14 in the country.”
that is very true and your best argument by far. I don’t really like the playoff formats they have now for this reason. why shouldn’t there be a state semifinal where Servite could play Crenshaw to determine who should move on to the open div championship? the loser could play Division II championship.
Division II seems like a compromise (though not a great one). but the silly “Northern Cal must play So Cal” premise is at it’s worst this year.
Congrats to those going to the state bowl games…..
The biggest argument / snub was up in the North in the D1 section.
Bellarmine Prep from San Jose got the nod over a possibly better team in Nevada Union from Grass Valley (Sacramento area). Both are power programs from their areas, but a good amount of fans think Nevada Union is the better and more deserving team. The Bay-Area political play seems to be the reason.
Check out the Sac Bee web blog debate going on about which team should have gone on to play Oceanside.
O’side has already had their way with Nevada Union.
Crenshaw and Servite are deserving to play in the open division. I thought Servite may get the nod due to strength of schedule, but Crenshaw being undefeated in the historically tough City Section is very deserving. The problem I have is with the No. Cal. representative- De La Salle of Concord, they have two losses!! give me break.
You should do a little homework before commenting. De La Salle’s losses are to the #2 ranked team in the country- Don Bosco of New Jersey and a very strong Lakeland team from Florida that lost in their division final. As usual, I suspect De La Salle will represent very strongly.
crenshaw would kill servite , they beat lakewood who is really good , fajardo isnt even that good
REALLY… I think Edison beat Lakewood pretty soundly in the semifinals and Servite, if you havent heard yet, just beat Edison in the CIF Pac-5 Championship last night.
Crenshaw would be dominated by Servite. And your comment about about Fajardo is rediculous.
His passing completion percentage is over 70% and he only has two interceptions all year. He has close to 2400 yards passing and over 1000 yards rushing. But i guess you know better.
GO SERVITE… CREDO
amen brother
Crenshaw is just another teram in a long line of athletic but not disciplined team. I would like to see Shaw represent the South but this is a BODY BAG game for DelaSalle — this would’ve been an infinitely better matchup for Servite.
Since Rocklin lost their QB I think the selection company wanted to insure at least one North win — by having Shaw play DelaSalle.
stop hating on servite just because they have somthing yall all dont got. its just another victory for servite and nothing yall can say will change that. and cody fajardo is good so is the rest of there team. so keep talkin will see who ends up on the top …
SHOULD OF BEEN SERVITE VS CRENSHAW
stop talkin all this mess about servite nothing you guys say will change anything, and cody fajardo is hella good. read it!!
and for the rest of servite players yall have been soo good.
my cousins will rip on all you guys!!!!! go servite!!!!!!!!!!!
all those other highschool dont got anything on servite
just another victory for serviteeee…. woot woot
go servite!!!!!!!!!!!
Just know that Crenshaw will have their hands full with perenial power DLS. THey have not faced a team like them. Sure DSL have two losses. There is a reason why they get respect every year. THey are a powerhouse. THey are always in these state bowl games since they began. It’s definitely going to be a great game. Hopefully Crenshaw can handle the spotlight of this magnitude. Defense will be the difference , I think.
Crenshaw would rip Servite a new one ? Fajardo isn’t that good ? Well then , I guess you Crenshaw boys know more than LB Poly’s coach , who picked Fajardo and Servite to win it at the start of the season , and during the playoffs .
No name,
Seeing how you’re a coward and don’t have the balls to leave your name on these posts…seems to me like everybody was saying the same thing about Edison beating Servite to a pulp, and look what happened! Do you think Crenshaw would have gone undefeated with the schedule Servite had? Put Servite on your schedule next year, clown! Quit putting cupcake teams on your schedule just to pad your record. Maybe then you’ll have room to talk. If not, then take your 4th grade education and 2nd grade reading ability somewhere else!
Bob,
A little hostile after a big victory. I’m certain that CREDO doesn’t mean criticize others for their lack of education. In this instance it might be a better choice to turn the other cheek. By the way is every poster not using there actual name a coward? If that is true Guild must be a real Softy.
Sorry Glen,
Speaking of education, it’s THEIR, not THERE!
There you go criticizing again Robert. Would your mother be proud?
I think not.
Yup,
It’s still THEIR!
And it’s Roberto, NOT ROBERT, GLENN!
Wow. Nice Catholic mouth you got there.
Servite has plenty to be proud of, now take care of business and take it to Norcal. Stop whining about being disrespected. You lost to Edison early, and that was a step back. Too bad. So you should be putting up 45 against Rocklin, because they aren’t competitive with the top 25 in the south.
And I suggest not puffing too much about next year. As Poly will tell you, it can be a pretty abrupt fall.
I love high school football. Let’s not get caught up in who the best. Let the play on the field speak. I think both teams are the best socal has. I’m a Centennial Fan. They said the same thing about them 1 and 1 vs dls. Remenber they play the games for the right reasons (Pride and the love of the game). So support all Socal teams.
“There was hope that De La Salle would have a showdown with Servite, but it didn’t work out that way.”
Crenshaw deserved to play in he open game…13-0…and the fact that people would rather see Servite and De La Salle shows the lack of respect the LA City Section gets…its simple you want that dream catholic match up? Separate public and private.
private schools should be separate from public then the stadiums would be cleaner
separate public and private? just like city section is separate from southern? because hey we know how well city usually fares in intersection games.
LOL you OCers are delusional if you think Servite would beat Crenshaw. I bet there’s not a single Servite fan here who has seen Crenshaw play.
Servite should feel more than content playing in that Div II bowl game against Rocklin. That’s an easy win for Servite.
Crenshaw should have enough to beat DLS. Don’t be fooled by DLS’s losses. They are a great program and they duck no one. They will play whoever they have to to prove their worth.
Crenshaw finally makes a name, congrats! Too bad you play De La Salle. We’ll see if you have what it takes to beat a good Catholic team. It’s one thing to play Lakewood. It’s another to play a disciplined, well coached and talented team. I believe Servite played ten of those in their regular season and another one or two in the playoffs. Maybe the hardest schedule in history of high school football, hmmm??? I know Servite would crush De La Salle, so good luck boys.
FYI – Crenshaw is probably one game we would over look just to get to a tough game on the schedule. However, I am sure Servite would welcome you on the schedule just to teach you a lesson. I just don’t think your ready!
NO Name……………No Brain…………… Go Friars!!!!!!!!!!!
If you truly followed Servite football, you would understand that Servite faced EVERY SINGLE obstacle head on in TEN GAMES OF THEIR SEASON!!! No one can match the experience Servite has in finding a way to win with the schedule they faced. They are CHAMPIONS for a reason, not because they play one or two hard games like Crenshaw. Crenshaw would make mistakes against Servite and not know how to recover – just like Edison, Mater Dei, Crespi, OLU, Poly, Lakewood, and all the others.
Of course when Servite wins, the opponents fans blame the refs, the weather, the hard Servite hits, and on and on and on. No match guys!!
After De La Salle and Servite both win their games next week, maybe we can have the Pope allow an additional game.
NorCal Elite v SoCal Elite….
pretty funny… but I like it.
Good job ” Men of Servite”, you guys played the way Servite’s always played – Hard hitting defense that never gives up!!
Good luck next week!!
Please says,
You show your ignorance saying that Crenshaw would kill Servite. Do you have a crystal ball? I wouldn’t say Servite would crush Crenshaw because a battle of words proves nothing! Put both teams on the field and let them decide it . Until then, keep your prognastications to picking the winning the Mega-millions lotto numbers!
Only common “6%” angle is that Crenshaw barely beat a Norco team that lost to an Inland Empire team that lost to Chaparral, who lost to Servite at home and is the IE CIF Champ.
Where is the strength of schedule criteria that was acclaimed as a priority element in determining proper representation? Politics, my friends. I’ll be fortunate to get this blog by the MAN.
CREDO
According to Rivals, Servite beat the No. 3 team in the nation. If that doesn’t speak volumes, you are only watching the game instead of studying it.
HAHA.. Matt Inman does homework… Now thats funny
all this…and former Servite assistant John Carroll has his Oceanside Pirates in the Division I game on Friday night…
Hmmmm.. Servite #2 in the nation Crenshaw #39… I won’t even go into SoS
WHO CARES!!!!!!!
They’re representing SOUTHERN CAL…….Lets try to make it possitive for all the teams from down here…..
Dang, who needs this crap now. Reminds me of the “ticket” issue that La Habra was going through the week of the big game. Does anybody care to just let it go and let the boys have there time on the field to show all of us how good we are done here in the SOUTHERN SECTION….
Thank you…!!!!!!!!!
I can’t believe the officials picked crenshaw to be in the open division bowl..that’s a joke..
Don’t like Servite’s chances basically a one-man show. Give em credit for being good mudders, but kinda small and one-dimensional. Both Lakewood and Edison beat them on a good fields. The CIF should be ashamed of the conditions at Angels stadium Saturday. Yeah it was the same field for both teams, but anyone watching could see the conditions heavily favored Servite’s simple option offense.
Give em credit they showed heart, but it was a damn shame to play the biggest game on that field. No attempt was even made to bring out a ground crew to fill in some of the puddles. For what it cost to light that field you’d have thought a few workers coulda been hired with some fill for the field, especially with two games played in the same day.
CIF should seriously reconsider playing at Angels stadium again.
If Edison was the No. 3 team in the nation, then Rivals has a credibility problem. All the arguments aside, bottom line is there are a lot more good teams in SoCal than in Norcal. With six games, I predict at least 5 wins for SoCal, and some significant blow outs.
The Southern Section should be ashamed of the conditions on Sat night. Putting a championship game on a patchwork sod field is ridiculous. Edison has nothing to complain about, since the conditions were the same for both teams, but for the HS football fan, Sat. night was a mess, and a huge disappointment.
Agreeable, I would have thought the field was covered prior to the game starting. That would have made a huge difference. The new sod combined (new sod suddenly planted combined with rain = automatic sloppy mess) with no covering, abundant rain, made for an ugly view. The sloppiness of the game, the concept of rain being the “great equalizer” made the game look completely different that it would have in dry conditions. You do have to give Servite credit for seizing the opportunity. As much as like respect guild, the conditions along with Servite’s go for it approach, were the difference, not just Servite, as all credo’s would like to believe. In My opinion, based
on what i’ve seen this year, Edison was the best team laying foot on
turf. If both teams play 5 games, edison wins 4 , i.m.o. Their team
speed was nullfied by the rain. That’s why it’s always been known as the great equalizer. I’m neither a fan of Servite or Edison, as a matter
of fact, my favorite team is Newport harbor and whoever is playing
Edison. I’m just posting what i saw, certainly without love goggles for either team.
Magilla
team speed for edison ? nichols blew past you all night what a cry baby grow up loser here to us kicking you again next year too. boo hoo!
You do realize your losing a crap load of talent next year? and Edison didn’t get beat down. You won by 10. Edison beat you by 2 scores the first time around and this game was much closer regardless of the score. So I’d watch your words Matt.
magilla and bozmania or what ever your name is. Ive been rippin friars all season and in playoffs just so they won since I allways picked wrong I was the goodluck charm . and after sat I am now a believer of every thing the guild has to say. 1st the rain and the field, get over it,you act like 2 other teams played in same conditions earlier and I dont see trab making excuses. 2nd and most important and IM shocked guold hasnt pocked up on it. edison had its chance on the botched punt snap to nichols in the endzone. I cant believe edison could not coral him for a safety.totally ridiculous, and that could have totally turned the game in their favor.the dicipline and focus really showed in friars favor and yes probably more than most came away from game totally impressed with cody fajardo.by the way were their any mvps given in the 2 games. mine would have been cody clements in 1st game and cody fajardo in 2nd.no wonder there werent any newspapers available at 7pm in lahabra sunday morning.
Whatsamapuckey,
A. You can’t spell, no i take that back, you can, at the level of my 4 year old.
B. Your punctuation rivals that of a 2 year old.
C. Because of conditions that persist on items A. and B. , i know you
you can’t read.
For this reason, i won’t waste time sifting through your jibberish.
Exactly how long has Crenshaw been ranked ahead of Servite for Div.II? And who’s rankings are considered and how much are they considered? Servite would not be anywhere if it was up to predictions. It seems like the general population wants to hold Servite down. I’m asking because I don’t know. Not to fire anyone up. Is everything a big secret behind those doors? Who is paying who? Power? At the hs level? I hope there is no coruptness behind those doors. Wouldn’t it be easy to find out?
Congratulations to Servite for winning the PAC-5. They embraced the final game’s elements and did what it took to win. I know the Servite Family doesn’t want to say it and be positive so I’ll say it for you.
Servite made a schedule with State Open Bid written all over it, then backed it up. Their only loss was to arguably the best “Day in and Day Out” #1 team in California until the PAC–5 loss, Edison.
If CIF has a logical & rational model for selecting the Open Bid and Servite didn’t just meet but exceed that model then you might just say one doesn’t exist.
Crenshaw and DLS are both great team and I wish them well but Crenshaw’s 14-0 record for CIF Selection was like deciding the NFL Wild Card by throwing half your schedule wins against some Canadian CFL league teams – seriously.
And I really don’t like Servite (don’t know why just one of those things like the SF Giants & the Celtics)…..but I respect their Coach & Kids for the year they put together including the toughest schedule in the state with an amazing 13-1 record. I just can’t see any other high school football record standing up to theirs.
But you can only play the games on your schedule….so as tough as this is for me to type…argh…next Saturday….go Friars!!!
PolyPapi, it’s posts like yours that help change the impression one’s entire school might give. I don’t like Poly so much either, but I do have some tangible reasons – mostly issues of common decorum and respect at football games that Poly fans did not honor at our second meeting.
That being said, I appreciate your support of our school and the fact that you can rise above the rivalry and be honest, as hard as it might be. It is helping to change my impression of Poly and its’ fans. That and the gentleman in Poly green who turned to the Servite fans after a particularly vulgar comment was yelled during our Hut Drill, and said “Please don’t judge our team and fans by the few who are so disrespectful.” You can’t judge a school by a small view of it or by a few bad apples, we should both know that as grown-ups.
Who knows…maybe we can come to a reasonable understanding of eachother one day and actually like one another for the right reasons! Until then, thank you for the words of support.
Friar Mom Says:
For a public school of 5,000, in one of the most diverse cities in the USA, & located in a tough inner city area, Poly is an amazing high school. But like every institution you’ll get all types at any event.
Me, I sent my kids to Poly for the Academic Programs first and sports second. Although I get pretty fired up during football season while AP Chemistry & Physics just don’t give me the same rush.
Re the “hut drill” – I just turned my back and didn’t watch ’cause I don’t like it (seriously I did, don’t know why but I hate watching it). Still, I didn’t say anything bad at all just did my silent protest (promise)
Even after they lost, twice, my boy said all the Servite football players where cool. That means he respects them I think. But for me, I feel this SF Giants/Boston Celtic rivalry thing swelling up in my gut when I see you guys – it’s not a hate hate thing just a rivalry I want us to beat the Cr&*p out of Servite thing. You know what I mean, right. It’s a good thing if you take it the right way.
Anyway, you have one more game to play so stay focused and play up to your potential. Next time you play Poly though – the gloves are off!
Is there a set of rules that can be bent ever so slightly if there was a corrupt person who fell into that tempting scenario? The best teams shoud be playing from the North! The people aren’t happy! The South is a mess too! Maybe there should be a separate game governed by the churches. The churches could do separate rankings too.
De La Salle said the same thing last year, about their one loss to Don Bosco Prep. They are the best team No. Cal. had to offer in Div. I., Corona Centinenial, then beat them up for the state DIV I title.
Now their coming into the Open Div. with two losses, yes again to Don Bosco Prep, and to a strong LakeLand, FL team. Lakeland lost this past weekend and aren’t even ranked in the top 25 nationally, Servite, Edison, Mission Viejo, Lakeland and Creshaw are, but who cares. De La Salle, is not even ranked in the top 25 nationally, and are no. 9 in the state, yet, somehow again landed the Open Div. title game?
Crenshaw is going to beat them worse than CC did last year. C’mon!
Who won that pre-season Servite-Centennial game last year?
Dude, what are you talking about. Servite didn’t play CCentennial last year, and why you would make such a comment is beyond me, since Corona Centennial was undefeated in 08.
Shoemate broke his foot at Centennial in ’06, and we lost a close one. It was ’07 when we worked you. My bad.
Respectfully I completely disagree. Crenshaw may win, but then again, who has Crenshaw played? Fortunately, opinions are kept to message boards and the games still need to be played. Oh, by the way…remember last year when Poly was “supposed” kill Grant in the final? What happened?
Uh, what I meant to say was that Westlake is ranked in top 25 (maxpreps) not Lakeland.
I can say, I have not seen Crenshaw play nor have I seen any game film. I focus on OC football. There is a tremendous talent pool, but discipline is an issue in the LA section school. And LB Poly has already scooped up most of the talent from LA county.
It would have been nice to see DLS vs Servite.
For those that sy Fajardo isnt that good. You may be the same people that said Servite couldnt beat MV. You were wrong. Then you jumped on the Edison band wagon and said Servite got lucky against MV and Edison will crush Servite. You were wrong
Keep discrediting the accomplishments and underestimating Servite. You will continue to be wrong.
Fajardo may not have the strongest arm in OC, but he keeps completing deep passes to receivers, Fajardo may not be a CIF sprinter, but he keeps breaking off long runs.
Some things can be measured by a 40 yard dash. It is called heart and this young man has it. What he also has, is an dedicated group of players around him. This is a team sport and Servite has a SOLID team. The defense keeps laying hats on people. The O-line creates the holes, the receivers keep making timely catches and the special teams keep creating havic.
It would be an nice to be in the Open Division, but Division II is an honor as well. Lets not lose site of the fact that we are CIF champs. This next game is just gravy. I hope all players end the season is good health.
CREDO> GOD Bless
And no public and private dont need to be separated. That only creates more division Los Al recruits like crazy, so does Poly. So the arguement that private schools have an advantage. . Yes they have no boundaries, but Huntington Beach schools have open transfer policy. That is why all the football players go to Edison.
edison lost cuz CIF decided to ply the game at a crapy stadium and not turff i just dont get that but hey servite can play better on a crappy feild good job i guess haha
I think it will be a close one for Crenshaw. Who knows? My question is why was it so important to get a 13-0 team into the Open and then a complete flip-flop, 2 loss, De La Salle? This isn’t for tv ratings or a payoff ? It smells fishy. They have never played Servite. Trinity league champs for 3 years. Step up DLS. Stop playing good schools that are afraid to play Servite. It’s not that easy down here.
Tough to criticize DLS, since they have consistently played the best teams in the country. They played Poly when Poly as at its best, MD when it was on top, and the best teams in Florida and New Jersey. Servite has to want that game also, and before this year, no one ever brought it up. You guys are on top: congrats. Now give it a rest, cuz one misstep, and you’re never going to hear the end of it next year.
Maybe Servite should play DLS in a pre-Trinity game so they’d get a taste of SoCal strength. Servite has no problem going to Fresno every other year to play Clovis. De La Salle is very similar to Servite and Crespi (Private, Catholic, all boys). I’m sure The Friars will be pumped at Home Depot this Saturday. The thousands of Servite faithful will show up as usual.
Anyone – Anytime – Anywhere!
CREDO!
Why would there be a Trinity league in the first place? Should Servite and the rest of the league play by new rules? Maybe they should play each other during the pre-season and then play the best schools in OC in a new “morph league”. Or, why not just add MV to the Trinity league in ’08 instead of JSerra? Drop Bosco and add Edison? I don’t know but cif is not perfect. Does it even matter?
JSerra is the class of the Trinity League in baseball and getting better every year in football. Edison and MV would be an interesting addition but Servite doesn’t dominate in every sport.
Im proud of both teams that played in the pac-5 championship but you have to admit that regardless of edison’s loss they should play for the d1 state title. I have heard nothing about Escondido all year. I know that CIF has the rule that they have to win their section but lets be realistic here. Edison deserves that game regardless of the pac 5 loss or not. Good luck to Servite in the d2 game. I will be there supporting a classy program.
Why am I blocked?
Guild,
For the love of God, did the diocese block you?
Evidently!
How in the heck does the diocese justify throwing Guild out the Catholic
church ( a christian spy), and continue to allow magilla run his mouth.
I vote we ban Magilla.
You’re not blocked, if you can comment, which you just did.
I don’t mean to criticize DLS, yes they have a good program. But why does the CIF in No. Cal. put a two loss team against an undefeated? If anything Servite should be facing DLS, in the DIV II game and undefeated Crenshaw should be facing undefeated Rocklin in the Open Division. It seems that the No. Cal. guys keep pushing DLS to be the best team in the state, when there clearly other worthy contenders.
Last year, Corona Centennial should have faced Grant in the open division, and LBPoly should have went against DLS. That would have been better match-ups, ie Crenshaw vs. Rocklin, Servite vs. DLS. The Servite vs. DLS match-up would have garnered alot more interest nationally as well matching two powerhouse parochial schools in the state.
Oh well, who cares. I’m a local So. Cal. guy, so Go Friars and Cougars!
Beacuse no team in Nor Cal can match up with them. Plain and simple. How many straight NCS Championships? 20 out of the last 21 years!
I am just a casual h.s. football fan, but both choices for the open division (this year) were political obviously. can’t comment about last year but you make a strong argument. however, hindsight is 20-20 so you gotta take that observation with a grain of salt.
I guess I incorporated a description of the Friars that is unacceptable. Just wanted o commend the boys on their lunchbucket work ethic and execution of play. They truly have the most leaders on each side of the l.o.s. and displayed the focus and quiet confidence , as they will this Sat and leave no doubt as to who is the Best TEAM in all the land!
magilla. funny when your called out you resort to critisizing spelling and punctuation like some teacher.sorry dont have time to worry about it on here nor do I give a crap. you siad it all earlier your a newport guy so that says it all. and you constantly bore us with your pro tustin gibberish so you are a loser, sorry to say.what I was saying is la habra played in same conditions only earlier and I dont see trabuco whinning about field conditions. and edison blew a great chance when the ball was snapped over nichols head into endzone and instead of getting safety and the ball back they let him escape. servite as the GUILD likes to say was more diciplined and focused than the beach boyz.why dont you get out your dinosaur def playbook out and tell us how you would have stopped fajardo.
Puckey,
You couldn’t possible have read my post. You couldn’t possibly have given the miriad of nonsense spewing from your post. I agree , i shouldn’t make fun of your learning disability. For this reason i’m committed to reading my post to you as your bed time story.
My good friend Gorilla. ‘whatchama” is just here representing, like we all do, and I commend him for seeing the errs of his misplaced beliefs and his turnabout. Jumping on the Servite bandwagon now is ok, it’s never too late for Divine intervention.
Now, about that spelling, I’ve been forced to accept some posters discomfort with literacy and I understand, as a former Eng/AmLit teacher.
Let’s all just get along and meet this Sat at The Home Depot Center and cheer on our OC reps….
Or not.
Guild,
No, no hard feelings between Puckey and myself. I just tied him into verbal knots, untied him, let him go. Kind of a catch and release
technique i learned in the navy seals. Nevertheless, I won’t be at the h.d. center, but i will be watching, go fryers!
Anyhow, one of my recent posts, one that fell victim to larceny, mentioned that I know your boy, Butch Pau. I coached his younger brother, just saw his dad recently at a Pop warner game. Great guy. My buddy, one of my coaches, ( coached with me when we won the o.c. championship in 03′.) coached Butch at the Pee Wee level. he was a quarterback. He threw it a mile, scrambled all over, no one could tackle him.
Magilla-out
Thank yu Erlina for such depth of insight. Just what happened to my previous six attempts the previous 24 hours? Must have been a word that contained unacceptable letters?
I’m good now Darlin and thank you.
Guild, i too have experienced such thievery. At first i thought the Diocese
stole them, brought them home, only to read them in secrecy and marvel over the content. I know for a fact, the pope himself had blessed my aforementioned posts. It’s for this reason i found their dissappearance to be rather disturbing. I thought too it could have been Fryer Tuck or one of his Monarchs that stole my material, hoping to
emulate the witty verbage. Then again, I might of said a bad word.
Magilla-out
Gorilla, Pau and Inman are taking their vitamins and pumping tons of iron, as all good Friars and will be OC Def Player of Year candidates next year. If Niklas is capable, next years defense will make Servite quite the juggernaut! It’s a blessing to be able to coach youth sports, as you do and have an impact on developing character and some moral strains to growing adolescents.
Hats off to you and all the other “coaches” on this site! Keep up the well intended devotion.
Crenshaw has talent, but do they Southern Section discipline. Servite has discipline, but do we have City talent? I’ve never seen Crenshaw play, but I’d like to.
Why not play it out on 12/26? Crenshaw vs. Servite to settle SoCal on the field. I’ll buy 6 tickets right now. Why can’t both schools agree to play each other and add one more game? Money? Liability? Field availability? I’m sure these are minor obstacles if the schools/kids agree to play. I’m serious, why can’t this game happen? What are the obstacles? As a Servite alum I know there is interest on our side and the will to make it happen if we know the obstacles.
Great job boys!!! You made Servite generations proud this year by doing the work with class and results.
Great job coaches!!! You’re doing it the right way.
Servite vs. Crenshaw TBA
Go Friars!!
The Guild and Magilla should get a room!!!
Encore and his preverted thoughts = Catholic Priest
What “allstar’, no love? Aside from some good info on your erstwhile hs exploits, your blogs reference your coaching in Las Vegas or some place in Nevada. Sorry that old Ron Smeltzer retired. Good man. You would benefit from his tuteledge.
Keep up your dedication.
How about Garth Brook’s Ticket’s for you two call it date???
Might I reccommend anger management?
Servite, lost all respect for that team, look like a bunch of clowns with the players faces painted all black, and that Hut drill is classless and disrepectful to other teams.
With so many turf fields in OC the CIF should be ashamed to allow that magnitute of a game to played on that field in those conditions.
Give Servite credit they are the Champs but the best team this season did not win Saturday night.
too bad you don’t understand the meaning of the Hut Drill. nor of any part of Servites traditions that they even do the hut drill when they lose too!! Servite 84′
I totlay agree with SteveP he’s a 100% right!!!!!
I totlay agree with matt he’s 100% right!!!!!
Those clowns owned you Saturday night.
Wow. Speaking of classless . . .
Not understanding something is one thing. Mocking it because you don’t understand it is another.
Great game on Saturday, one players on both sides will remember for a very long time. I sincerely hope you’ll think of them, and what they have to remember, before posting again.
All Servite alums are immensely proud of the team, coaches, and school. This team are true champions. Played a tremendously tough schedule and beat whoever they came up against. Had to overcome plenty of key injuries along the way too. Who knows how good this team would have been at full strength with Niklas, Taula, Jakubic (?), and others that were lost along the way. But hey, they won no matter the circumstances.
Yes, there are times that the team looks one-dimensional on offense. Or the play-calling seems suspect. But overall it has tremendous talent and weapons. Fajardo can stretch the field with Guerrero, Nicholls, Johnson and Abeyta. And they can pound the ball down your throats when they want to with DeRosa, Fajardo, Nicholls et. al. This team averaged 36 points a game during the regular season with a brutal schedule.
And the defense stepped up bigtime in the playoffs. Anyone who went to any of the playoff games saw as hard-hitting and stinging a tackling team as you’d ever want to see. Ask Westbrook (LBP), Marshall (MV), and Zumwalt (Edison). They were all knocked loopy during Servite games. Yeah, they made it back onto the field but they sure weren’t as effective. What a bunch of hitters Servite has. I’d list them but I’d have to include the whole D.
Anyways, Servite goes to DII game and is happy and proud to represent and have another game. Its a shame we couldn’t have seen Servite play Crenshaw. I’m sure Servite would be the underdog because Crenshaw supposedly has unstoppable offensive weapons. But the REALITY is that Crenshaw played a mediocre at best schedule. They had trouble with Lakewood (Yes early on) and they’d have trouble with Servite. Guaranteed.
Zumwalt ca hit harder then all of ur servite kids
Where is Zumwalt playing this week?
Crenshaw would rip servite a new butt hole this kids r from LA there to tuff for u private schoolkids
“nonamee”, Servite cut their teeth on city schools since the early 60′s, as well as, the Compton schools, Long Beach schools and San Diego! Most won’t schedule the Friars.
Those of us that have had the priveledge of competing against city schools do appreciate their skilled athletes and we knew we would outhit and execute with the discipline that isn’t found in their programs, with few exceptions. PERIOD.
Thank you steve p. Theres so many other places that game could have been played. I would have been fine playing it at cypress even or hell some place in LA. That field was a joke. And Servite i get that your all close and what not but your students painting their faces is HUGE CIF violation. I wish Southern Section would step up and enforce the rules and strip you of your title this season. Cause that face paint=automatic forfeit. I think that field was an absolute joke. in texas if it rains that bad before a district championship game they play on an artifical turf. And dont tell me cypress or occ couldnt fit enough people. Occ fits 7400 thousand people and then the best team may have won.
yeah that would be the way you would scam a trophy. lord what a bunch of sore losers you public school guys are, if it wasn’t so pathetic i would feel sorry for you. I can only say you should up your Prozac intake ALOT.
Magilla I’m not a Catholic Priest, but I do hold the Priesthood, Brother. And Guild I am a long time line-coach. And I have a NCAA Championship ring I won in 1984 that you both can Kiss. Happy Holiday’s.
No, your still a Catholic priest. The championship ring, the line coach stuff, the happy holidays, you kissing this and that, that’s just window dressing for your Priesthood.
.Come on “allstar’, we’re just funnin wit ya. I know you started your illustrious career with the GG Jet PW team and have been a success ever since and have made Ma and Pa “allstar” very happy and all the alums at Pacify High. Probably were an altar boy at St Polycarp and led the team prayer and are a fine asst coach at the hs level. I commend you and appreciate your zeal. Happy Holidays!
Waaah, waaaah, waahh!!! What a bunch of cry babies. If the the field wasn’t so muddy, waah, waah…if the sky was clear, waah, waah…if Servite hadn’t hit us so hard, waah, waah…if my shoes weren’t wet….waah, waah….if the stadium was chalked east-west instead of north-south, waah, waaah…if…if…waah, waah. Stop making excuses already. It’s football!!!! And I’m talking to the few whiners on this board, not the great Edison players and their real fans.
And didn’t even go to Servite.
Oh yeah, Go FRIARS!!!!!
Good luck against Rocklin…..I’ll be there.
Crenshaw vs. Servite. What are the rules on playing one extra game? Surely it can be put together. Kids and fans can meet up anywhere. Why can’t this game happen if the schools and/or the kids agree to meet somewhere? Alums can help out and find a field. How can we make it happen?
steveP,
BTW, the Hut Drill has nothing to do with the opponent Servite is playing…it is all about discipline and tradition. The Hut Drill is done after EVERY game, win or lose. If the opposing team takes offense, well maybe their coach needs teach them a little about discipline, tradition AND respect.
Wow! So much Hostility. As a Graduate of Servite, I am very happy for the Friars and all they have accomplished. What I am not so happy with is all the Smack that people are talking on behalf of Servite. If you ever Played for Servite you wouldn’t disgrace the school or your team by talking a big game. We do our talking on the field with class, grace and pride. That is what Servite football has always been truly about. It has never been about how good of a football player Servite can produce, it is how good of a Man Servite can produce. Friar Fans take a step back and remember what we are about. As for Crenshaw. They seem like a great team who has had a great season. Being that Servite will never get a chance to play Crenshaw to see who is actually better, I see no reason to belabor the debate. I will be rooting for Crenshaw to represent SoCal with honor. Good Luck and of course, Go Friars!!! All who have gone before you will be with you on Saturday!
No hostility here. But I do want to know why the game can’t happen. I would love to see it. Why can’t the game be put together? I really think it’s possible if we want it to happen. I think Crenshaw must have a great team to go undefeated no matter who they played. I’d like to see the game and see no reason why we can’t make it happen. What are the rules? I’m sure the kids on both sides would be up for it. Friars are resourceful, how can we make it happen?
Why not,
You should go knock on Coach Thomas’s door and see what he thinks about your great plan. I’m sure he’ll start making arrangements immediately.
still haven’t heard a reason.
I didn’t say it couldn’t be done. I just suggested getting Coach’s approval. He is most likely in his office right now. Call him.
Coach, are you out there? I now you read these. Up for it? This can happen. One more game?
Who’s clowning who Mr Why not?
714-774-7575 EXTENSION 1630
Old 99,
so I’m learning…(just kidding –> I mean no disrespect to MD!!!) My apologies to all associated with Servite and Edison.
Yeah, you are right….Well put…but as you can see, I’m an MD grad
Keeping it real-
You are going to complain about face paint? These are High School KIDS! Should we measure ankle tape, sweatband length, and neckroll height too? As far as the field goes people will talk about how both teams played on the same field and everything. That’s fine. Think about the experience these KIDS just had. Not only did they get to compete for a championship, but they did it in a stadium that hold over 40,000 people. Of the KIDS that got to play maybe 12 will go on and play in College. This is a high school memory they will always cherish, don’t downgrade that. Maybe we need to contact CIF and tell them to check the weather 6 months in advance so we know if it will rain on championship day. Last time I checked they didn’t book the game in December. Sure the game could be moved to OCC or the Santa Ana Bowl but those places couldn’t hold 1/2 the crowd that would want to attend. If you think it’s fair to strip a High School KID of his accomplishment for painting his face what else do you consider fair?
U know in reality I think all you teams from Orange County are way over–rated AND U WOULDNT STAND A CHANCE IF U WERE IN A REAL LEAGUE LIKE THE MARMONTE NEXT YEAR. IN VENTURA COUNTY
WESTLAKE MOORPARK ST BONAVENTURE OAKS CHRISTIAN
NEWBURY PARK . SERVITE AND EDISON AND EVEN MATER DEI WOULDNT EVEN WIN LEAGUE OVER HERE…..
BTW HARRY WELCH WIN A REAL CHAMPIONSHIP U COULDNT HANDLE THE BIG LEAGUES AT CANYON SO U LEFT AND WENT TO GO COACH AT PE-WEE LEAGUE WITH ST MARGARETS WHO SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES PLAYING IN THAT DIVISION. PLAY SOME REAL TEAMS DIRTY HARRY
The Crack i sell it to ur wife…..hahahah Man u teams out there in orange county are wack come on down to Ventura County you fools will get rolled St Bonaventure Oaks Christian Westlake Moorpark will beat any team over there. I remmber whe n Orange Lutheran would get their ass kicked every time St Bonaventure beat them hahahahah Owned
Are you related to whatsamapuckey? …. b.t.w., O. Christian is oaks-verated.
Horhay, you imbecile! Oaks and Bonnie play in the Marmonte next year!
You guys are as big a whiners as LA City folk. We used to scrimmage you guys with our JV’s so it wouldn’t get too rough!
Classic.
Key word….remember.
What happenned to all those great Marmonte League teams in CIF this year? Ummmm, Westlake did beat Moorpark. Are you really going to attempt to say that Westlake and Morpark could beat either Ediaon or Servite? Hell, they couldn’t beat Mission Viejo or La Habra! Other than those two, what have your got? Let’s see, Oaks Christian lost and where was St. Bonaventure?
Just made the case for Servite with facts. Plain and simple.
so let me first reply to jorge
my uncle is the head coach for moorpark, and ive seen quite a lot of his games. i played for servite a few years back. i wasnt even a starter, but my uncle told me himself that if i was out at moorpark, i would start no problem. i take it you havent seen any OC games personally
all you people complaining about the weather… are you kidding me? seriously? hahahahaha, you make me laugh!!!!!!!! thats football weather!!!! thats how the sport is supposed to be played!!!!!! in the rain and mud!!!!!!! i know you fellows are used to your 75 degree, sunny beach weather, but come on. the best team will find a way to win no matter what. no excuses. i dont know if you knew this, but in the 2008 season, servite played clovis west and the refs were paid off. it was blatantly obvious for anyone who went to the game, but servite, being the better team, found a way to win. no excuses. yes edison beat servite at the beginning of the season, thats because edison was the better team. but im guessing that all of you know that teams mature throughout the season, right? or have some of you never played football? if so, then please stop posting things because you really have no idea what you are talking about unless you have played the sport. do i comment on what doctors should and shouldnt do? what they did right, what they did wrong? no, simply because im not a doctor.
teams and players can come a long way in 2 months. just look at long beach poly this year. servite was the better team. they found a way to win.
Hola Servite,
Great win versus Edison, but Rocklin gonna tap that @ss!
I told my brother, who lives in Pa., about the rain and he said that a few of the Friday night games in Pa. had rain. He also mentioned that “not a complaint was made by any team as to it being fair for one team and not for the other”. How many other schools are crying to mother nature? Are all of the complianers about the weather here in Ca. where we refuse to play football in the rain? This is Dec.! It rains here! Lucky we don’t need shovels. High school championships for football are played in the rain in every state depending on mother nature. Complain to God! Credo.
Servite hands down should have been selected for the open div they earned it were it counts, on the field
They didn’t earn anything, everything was given to them. Mission and Edison are the two best teams in the state, maybe even country, and they played there worst games against Servite.
And you, “heretic_is” obviously got your manners in SoCounty! Don’t pick up the cheese with your bare hand, cause you just got spanked! Go tell all your school chums.
Ever since the MD game this Friar squad has been making a statement. They came hard every play. The march thru the Trinity became such a workmanlike performance with lunchbucket resolve.
By the time the playoffs started, The Friars were a well tuned, battle tested Black Machine, treading over every opponent, regardless of “Wow” factor or unbelieving witnesses.
A QB that showed skill and nerve of a neuro surgeon and executed (only 2 int’s all season!) plays like a pro of Peyton or Patton’s ilk. Key upperclassmen demonstrated leadership from experience that brings class. The defense was young at the start, but became the clearcut, best honed defense, with an edge refined by hardhitting, relentless aggression and determined grit unparrallaled.
The Coach, often scrutinized, had the resolve of a man resolute in conviction and deaft of naysayers. The entire staff was molded by the glue of their leader’s intensity.
This is a TEAM that won’t be denied their goal. State Champs and the finest hsfb team in all the land!
CREDO
Guild…your the best! I love reading your comments. You truly have a way of educating the cubs……….thanks for all the laughter/fun you have put in this blog….I mean that sincerely.
Credo, Go Friars!
The State Division & Open Selection is Subjective and therefore almost always going to have some controversy/politics to it. Just no way around it that I know of.
I suggest we all stay on the positive side here. That is, I’d rather be in the PAC-5, have our boys play at the highest level, watch great football almost every week, and see many of our kids get scholarships (or have a chance to be walk-on a college team) because they have excelled at the highest level in the nation. Isn’t that what really counts?
And once again, it rips at my heart (& I say this as I reach for my air sickness bag) but……Go Friars!!!
* The Crenshaw vs DSL game is an interesting match-up though between two very good teams (see I’m really trying to be positive).
Anyone who complains about the weather is a baby!!! Edison had nothing that Servite couldn’t handle. They were overmatched and outplayed. After watching that game, only an idiot would say that “the better team lost”. Servite should be playing in the open game period. No team in the country played a tougher schedule! Go Friars. Go coach Thomas.
my son plays on the servite team and trust me no one is disappointed in playing a 14-0 rocklin team, we have the chance to beat our 3rd undefeated team in a row.
must I remind all of you that rocklin beat (GRANT) the same team that demolished poly in state last year, and when rocklin beat grant they were #1 in state, so no we got a tough game and we are not unhappy!
the sad thing is that all of the people in so.cal can not be happy for crenshaw, as a servite dad I hope all the so.cal teams do good and represent so.cal with class and by beating up on no.cal..
max preps and other nationwide polls will decide whom the best so cal team is! do not be surprised if delasalle is on the schedule next year replacing clovis west or even corona centenial
I suspect Westlake will be more likely for 2010 and DLS added in 2011. Either way Servite will have another schedule loaded with top competition and more fodder for the naysayers!
Tis the season…
It has come to my attention that several parents and “family” members of some of Crenshaw’s football team don’t have the money to purchase tickets for the state champ game this Sat. Might be the right time for some of us to ante up.
Those that might choose this venue to help fellow man, please contact Crenshaw High Principal Luther Waters Waters at 323-290-7809 or at luther.n.waters@lausd.net.
Put yourself in the shoes of a parent or sibling that supports the good aspects of hs sports, but might not be able to afford $15. I’m calling out to all, not just Friar alums and fans.
CREDO
I love Servite, but this Rocklin team should not be dismissed as a weak team. They are 14-0 with a strong schedule. Grant was 1st and goal at the 1 yard line and did not score. That says something about their D line. SJS teams are getting better every year. Do not relax on these boys…they might just surprise everyone like Grant did last year.
i find the silence from the sportswriters to be quite telling. If their favorites like MV or ED had won would we find such a lack of follow up stories? I should say not. It would be 24/7 about how right they were and how we should not question their picks. Servite 84′
for those who think coach thomas is not smart ?
heres a fact all last week everytime FAJARDO took a snap the ball was drenched with water .. who outcoached who coach white!
offense wins games -defense wins championships..
ask mission and edison what great defense does to a great offense?
maybe if those schools had been battle tested in there preseason games they would of took what it takes to play the best week in and week out
Love and respect you as a Servite parent JC, but, understand that Edison (Coach White) schedules Servite and MD, year in and year out. That’s a contributing factor to the Chargers success in the tough Sunset League every year. Your inference, though well intended, lacks veracity and true undertanding of how a few programs, like LaHabra and Edison, separate themselves from the norm.
No harm, no foul.
CREDO
freedom of speech?we all have it!politicians, ghosts, beware. and CREDOOOOOOOO! cReDo,crethow and credodeodo to all…and to all a good night. Like Seinfeld’s “Helloooooo!!”. i just like saying it
Snapple facts—Puddy from Seinfeld is a Servite alum. He also did the voice for Buzz Light Year. He would have attended Edison. He was the grand marshall for the HB 4th of July Parade about 8-9 years ago.
I forgot about Family Guy
Riveting.
Coach Thomas is loved by Servite fans for sure! He seems like a straight shooter. He’s the bee’s knees! Here’s a story about a BAD football coach I heard about.About a coach who went back to a school that he once coached at. He went back to his coaching job during early summer.Baseball players were in the locker room prepping for an American Legion game, some were starting football players. That coach walked through the boys locker room when the players were getting dressed. An old man in the locker room you say? Yes, and nobody knew who he was! One of the players stood up for the rest of the team and asked “who are you and why are you in here?”. The story goes that the coach didn’t think he needed to answer. The coach,in turn, asked the baseball player if he was a football player too. Player says “yes”. Coach says drop down and give me 50. Player did the 50 and never talked to the coach again. Player was humiliated. His friends on the baseball team didn’t like it. 1st and 2nd string QBs played baseball and kept on playing baseball. 5 fb/bb players quit and the new coach was none the wiser. A trickle affect that was never recovered from until Coach Thomas came to Servite!
Hey O.C. what’s happening??? Well to put the game between Edison & Servite in perspective… I watched the game again on my DVR and slow-mo at the snap and was truley impressed by Servites front four. They totally dominated the line of scrimmage, especially in the second half. What a great job staying low, stuffing block’s and filling gap’s. It was textbook. I’ll use this as a training tool next year at PaloVerde. Edison you should of been more ready for the condition’s at Angel Stadium. I saw you play LBPoly in the finals a few year’s back so you should of known about the field. Actually when I played there in 78′ the tuff part was the clay infield to turf. We were not prepared for the field back then and think Edison had the same trouble. Great job PAC-5 Champions Servte Friar’s. And to Guild and Magilla a big “CREDO” to you, my Friend’s.
Good post “allstar’ and you couldn’t have a much better training film for d-line technique. First step, hands and feet, leverage and head up. Maybe you should consider one of the several job openings back here in the OC, though I know about excelling in a smaller arena. Tough to leave behind. Thanks for the consideration my friend and good luck on all your endeavors.
You’re right “nonamee”, but Edison shares the distiction with LBP, who also had to face the Friars twice! No team should be so abused.
what up guild, old whatchamacallit here. my hats off to you and your friars.totally impressed for 1st time. these edison whiners are pathetic. viles and comp had as many opps as servite but couldnt get it done. the weather didnt stop fajardo from completing some very key passes and some long ones at that . and that boy must have grown up on waterskis cause man he can run in the rain,un like the chargers.I turned off the tube completely schooled, and yes as much as we love the juice up in la habra fajardo definatly oc /cif/allworld player of year.peace ,by the way do you want me to pick rocklin so I stay consistent and you guys win again
Well said ,my friend. It’s never too late to be enlightened! The “juice” is one tough runner and a great kid, no doubt. You now have two great programs to be proud of there “whatchama” and it’s heartwarming (I’m getting a little tear in the corner of my eye) to read your sincere feelings and it takes courage.
Root for the Friars as a sign of respect and all will go well, I’m sure. Keep up with the banter here and keep the Gorilla and I alerted as to your English classes at the Adult Education Center in LH. We’re just here to help!
