Football Video: Three-peat! La Habra shuts out Trabuco Hills

December 12th, 2009, 11:46 pm · · posted by

football_iconThe Highlanders win their third consecutive CIF championship shuting out Trabuco Hills 21-0. Quarterback Cody Clements scored three touchdowns, while the Highlanders defense only allowed 49 rush yards.

What an amazing run for La Habra. They have now won five CIF titles this decade, and that can all be traced to Frank Mazzotta. They went back-to-back in ’02 and ’03, and have now three-peated their way into the record books.

It was nice to see Josh Quezada and his brother share a long embrace after the game. Josh credits his older brother for improvements in his game, and molding him into the man he is today. He also wanted to dedicate his newest championship ring to his other brother Jarell, who played for the Highlanders from ’04 to ’06.

Time for La Habra to move on to new challenges isn’t it? I heard the commentators on the IBNsports broadcast mention that La Habra had been asked if they wanted to move up to a higher division and they said no. Why? Seems to me like they could play with the higher division schools. I say embrace the new challenge and take on the big boys.

district wont put them thru what esperanza had to go thru! kids leaving class early, long bus ridesand where woud you put them? sunset? too far…south coast? way toooo far!

JR- La Habra just moved up to the CIF Southwest Division last year. Believe me with Teams like Tustin, Trabuco Hills, Cypress, El Dorado, Fullerton, Pacifica, Villa Park, El Toro all historically strong programs and now Esperanza, those teams are plenty challenging enough!

  • Country says:

There won’t be a need for La Habra to move up. When the new division alignments are announced. The Southwest will be tougher when the Orange league is dropped and La Habra will be where they belong. I expect the Miramonte league (Charter Oaks, Diamond Ranch, etc.) to replace the departing Orange league.

Here’s my prediction for the new Southwest Division:

Century (Espy, Foothill, Canyon, El Dorado, Brea, VP, ElMo)

Empire (Tustin, Cypress, Yorba Linda, Western, Pacifica, Kennedy, Valencia)

Freeway (La Habra, Fullerton, Sonora, Buena Park, Sunny Hills, Troy)

Seaview (El Toro, Laguna Hills, Aliso Niguel, Capo, San Juan Hills)

Miramonte (Charter Oaks, Diamond Ranch, Los Altos, Bonita, WIlson)

    la habra’s preason teams

    Orange Luthern-pac 5
    Los Al-pac 5
    Bosco-pac 5
    La mirada-southern div champ
    Downey-weak

  • Country…Is this division realignment a personal prediction or is it something that CIFSS is acturally tmoving on. If Miramonte replaced Orange it would make a great division.
JR…Remember, LH is a 2400 enrollment school. We currently have a “premier” coaching staff to work with local kids. In these economic times it would be a burden on the school to travel to these teams. That is the main reason Esperanza moved to the Southwest Div. The Southwest Div. is becoming stronger and more competitive each year.

It’s actually something the CIF is moving on. Those are just my prediction of who is moving out/in of the Southwest. Fryer wrote this a couple of weeks ago.

“New league alignments for the 2010-11 school year and the three following years will mean new playoff division groupings, too.” – Fryer

So I’m betting that the Southeast Champs (Charter Oaks) and their league will move on up. Which will bring some publicity to the Southwest Division. For some reason, the Southwest is slept on by everyone else but the Register. Charter was ranked in the state top 25 for most of the season. So when they come. They’ll come with their state ranking for a OC team from the SW to knock off.

La Habra fans – Great class after the win to TH…Even with all of there success it is not practical for LH to move up to Pac-5 based on the fact that they only have an enrollment of 2,100 students. Tribute to the coaching staff to their level of continued success. TH is ready for the Pac-5. With an enrollment of over 3,200 students and most of their kids returning they are ready to compete with the likes of Mission Viejo, Tesoro, San Clemente, etc.

As I indicated before the game, the deciding factors were coaching, defense and turn-overs/mistakes in that order. All the weather did was emphasize weaknesses and strengths, which the LH coaching staff did a great job of exposing. TH coach should have stayed with short/quick passing game early (like they started off with on opening drive), but they didn’t. Game was decided by LH outcoaching TH more than anything else. Great job to both schools. Would be great if each school could figure out a way to play in non-league now that they are in separate divisions.
