Football recruiting: Los Al’s Richardson commits to UCLA

December 7th, 2009, 8:20 pm · · posted by

shaqLos Alamitos standout cornerback Shaquille Richardson (6-1, 178) has committed to UCLA, he confirmed in a text message moments ago.

This is a great get for UCLA and Coach Rick Neuheisel. I think Richardson can be a shutdown corner for the Bruins. I love his one-on-one cover skills and his ability to stay with wideouts. He also is a very aggressive kid and has the hands to be a ball hawk.

I also like Shaq’s ability to play the ball in the air and make plays.

Richardson was well-recruited in the Pac-10 but said he felt most comfortable at UCLA.

I might actually watch a Bruin game now, to watch how he does there.

I seriously wonder what these kids think of when they make decisions like this.
I can understand that UCLA is a fine institution, but a place for defense?
I’m seriously baffled at this. I could understand this if he was an offensive player…with Norm and even Rick to some degree, but defense? Their defense took a step back with D. Walker leaving for new Mexico. This isn’t a team I think “defense” when figuring out my next option.

Good luck to him though. I’m sure he can play early.

the tide is turning in socal. can you feel it. who remembers the first time you met edgrin james? miami upset undefeated ucla in 2000. a bogus fumble call against ucla gave miami the win that brought them back from the shame of probation. and from that loss usc emerged as the power of socal football for the past decade. but their is a sea change, usc has fallen and ucla has taken advantage in the competition for prep talent. i am aligned to neither team, i just love football. this is just the beginning of a new era. perhaps an era of parity, perhaps a reversal of fortune, who knows, but ucla is for real again. and the real winner is me. a guy who loves football. pete’s success at usc came from a combination of the talent (they always had), discipline, and enthusiasm. rick knows what to do. and it is on.
