  • Steve says:

Steve is that a typo in the top 5 juniors…………David Brown?? who is he……0 points, 0 history……..??

  • bball fan! says:

    Steve,

You got this one very right!

  • Panthers Parent says:

You left out a great Freshman for Orange High RJ Valenzuela.
HE is something to watch out for. 6’2 Freshman…scored 12 points last night in Tournament against Santiago.

  • Steve Fryer says:

If you have a better junior than David Brown, send it along.
As for RJ Valenzuela — the coach has not submitted a survey, so I don’t know about him. But if he is good, I will!

  • John Drachman says:

How about Christian Taylor at University, he was League MVP of the pacific coast league last year as a sophmore

    • Steve says:

Hands down Billy Keller at Oceanview. All CIF as a Sophomore point guard for a State Championship contending team. Best defensive point guard in the OC. Starting this year averaging 13 a game and an All tournament selection in their first tourney last week. Oh and 15 again tonight against Rancho Verde in a solid victory.

  • CR says:

    Left out a top sophomore.
    Brian Fisher
    6’3 175
averaging 12 points a game for the Aliso Niguel Wolverines

  • Scott Holman says:

Congrats to all the freshman and their families….I’ve enjoyed watching you all play, in most cases for 4-5 years. Welcome to HS basketball and I look forward to your continued development.

  • CR says:

    Steve Fryer,
For your next and updated top (non-seniors), you need to forget about all other sophmores and juniors until you put Brian Fisher as a top sophomore. In 6 games he is averaging more points rebounds and assists, then all your other sophomores that is listed. Averaging 16 points a game, he is scoring more than your top juniors as well. On saturday he was named All tourney for the La Quinta tournament. He is a solid player, who is putting up consistant high numbers in Points, Rebounds and assists. Watching Brian Fisher play this season and for the first 6 games, i can confidently say that he is the #1 non senior in the county.

  • dewey says:

Wow CR thats a bold statement I’m going to have to watch this kid play. However wait till the season shapes up a bit. I’m pretty confident that Gabe York is the best Sophomore in the state.

    • BBALL says:

You know how every sophomore in the state plays? Gabe has talent but jacks up 20 plus shots a game and is only making around 20 percent of those shots. I really really doubt he is the best sophomore in the state.

      • dewey says:

Check your stats you’re way off. Seems as though the entire Pac10 thinks he’s the best sophomore. Last year he was voted the best Freshman in the state and with the improvements I have seen it is hard to believe he won’t be the best sophomore as well.

        • BBALL says:

could you give me his stats then? because i’ve seen him play a couple times and had input from others who have seen him play all year and thats what i’m basing my opinion on.

  • dewey says:

Gabe dropped 24 last night on the #2 team in the nation. Last year shot 50% from beyond the arc as a freshman. This was done in one of the toughest leagues in the state. Don’t know his exact stats but I know he shoots much better than 20%. Tonight they played the #13 team in the country and lost at the buzzer. Gabe’s stats aren’t listed yet so I am not sure how he did. With that being said I am still interested in seeing Brian Fisher play, just wish Brian’s coach would report his stats.

  • dewey says:

Gabe only had 3 points tonight so he is not helping my argument.

  • Panthers Parent says:

Yesterdays El Modena tournament game, RJ Valenzuela drop 15 of their 30 points. Orange High has a diamond in the rough!!

  • knight fan! says:

Hard to leave out junior point guard kevin ramirez, one of the leading scorers in the county and easily one of the top 5 point guards in orange county!

  • Panthers Parent says:

Ending the El Modena tournament yesterday against Oceanview with 22 points RJ Valenzuela (Robert) showed what he is made of once again.

  • CR says:

So Dewey I dont suppose you watched the match up between Brian Fisher and Gabe York last wednesday in the championship game at estancia. Brian Fisher scored 32 points against gabes 13. The underestimated Aliso Niguel #20 in the county takes down OLU #4 in overtime. York was very inconsistent and was easily shutdown by Brian’s defense . Matched up the whole game, Brian Fisher is definitely the better player.

    • dewey says:

Yes Brian did an excellent job and you are definitely right Gabe was very inconsistent that game. It wasn’t so much the defense as it was Gabe not hitting open jumpers. Gabe had many open looks but they weren’t going in for him. I would give it a little time and see who pans out to be the better player. I do like Fisher and think he is a great talent. Thankfully we will get to see alot of these kids over the next couple of years. Its unforunate that OLU played with out their big man. He definitely would have made a difference against a strong phyisical team like Aliso. I like the way Aliso plays and they definitely were hot that night. They shot extremely well from beyond the arc and they did a great job of rebounding. After Aliso’s win I hope they see what they are capable of. If they work that hard and continue to be strong and physical like they were they can really do some damage to some good teams. Great game Aliso and well deserved tournament MVP for Fisher.

  • CR says:

Why give more time Dewey. Look at their stats, brian is better in every stat category. (Brian’s Stats)-14.1 pts, 3.7asts, 6.1rbds. (Gabe’s Stats)-13.8pts, 1.3asts, 4.8rbds.. hmmm, looks like brians better in every category. I didnt put steals ft% or fg% in, but just to tell you, brian was higher in those stats as well. With these stats, im gonna go with Brian Fisher as the better player. Hands down, Brian is the top sophomore in the state, and the top non senior in the county.

    • Benelli says:

I have to agree, Bryan Fisher and Aliso Niguel beat Huntington Beach tonight.
And ya, you guessed it, Fisher led all scorers again with 32 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assist. As I said in other blogs, I do believe Mater Dei is the top
team, but give credit where credit is due. Stats do not tell the whole story,
but CR is right on here. Fisher is the best Sophomore I’ve seen, and I’ll go a step further and state he is better than 95% of the seniors! I have not travelled the state, but if your rankings are close to accurate with your OC picks, Fisher
is right there. I think Aliso’s coach has finally figured things out. Good News for
      Aliso fans.

  • CR says:

    Yes Indeed!

  • keeping it real says:

Too bad billy keller owns all these kids your talking about. that kid is a gamer. He is the point on a team that should win state, he was a soph starting on a cif and sectional winning team and oh yeah if mason jones hadnt of had the flu they would have won state. so billy keller is better then all these kids you talk about.

  • King Wang says:

bryan fisher. that name says it all, amazing talent, amazing IQ

  • bball says:

kevin ramirez should be on this list, great pg but not so great team, if he had attended a better school we would be hearing about this kid a lot more
