I posted this on a comments page at ocvarsity, but figured I would make it more easier to find. Because I think you care. Maybe I’m wrong about that! Here it is … with some additional comments.
I think the refs made funky calls that hurt both teams — some of those spots of the ball helped Servite here and there, and why not get a measurement when it’s so close? But during the course of a game, officiating calls will balance out — helping your team, hurting your team. And these are high school refs; can’t expect college or NFL quality. Despite the mistakes here and there, the refs did a fine job, as they almost always do!
That was a great football game. Servite showed a ton of poise and heart.
Mission’s defense WAS good. Man, they hammered Fajardo a few times, but that kid is like Manny Pacquiao.
Servite has a lot to be proud of, again. The 12th Man was rocking for the Boys in Black. I am always impressed by the support that Servite gets. Unmatched.
And Mission — nothing to be ashamed of; a great season for the Diablos. Those kids played well, and as hard as they could.
We had great players and great coaching all night long Friday at Cerritos College.
Thank you Steve.
Thanks Steve, well said!
Only one more thing, can you please make Servite the underdog again for next week? Edison was the underdog last round and they won. I think it’s all in the head. Our crouds fuel our kids. UNMATCHED crouds is abolutely correct. You could do an article about the Servite Fans. No don’t. They don’t have any space for more students who would want to attend Servite. I love Servite Football. One game at a time guys! Friar family is awesome. Credo.
Steve;
I agree about most of the officiating except the comment about “refs did a fine job” – mediocre maybe – too many questionable – yes, both ways. But great players – although I was disappointed sitting in MV section and hearing the language of a few loud adults – poor examples – for great kids.
Lhhman, people say worse things while they are driving, but that must be okay because nobody can hear them? Glass houses.
Steve, Thank you for your great high school football coverage. I look forward to reading eery article. You provide good insight into the game and give the kids well deserved recognition
Please pick Edison. hahaha
