  • Jack Nelson says:

Mater Dei rolled to easy 96-39 win over Loara in opening round of the Loara tourney with UCal Berkely signee Gary Franklin leading the way with 29 points in 18 minutes including 8-10 from beyond the three point arc and King ,Lamb, Hooper and Reinhardt were also in double figures and Hooper hit 4-6 from three point land. Lamb and King were not starters due to disciplnary action but when the first five started to open the third period they outscored Loara 40-13 in that period to initiate the running clock for the final period. Coach McKnight picked up his 829th win to tie him with the legendary Lou Cvijanovich of Oxnard Santa Clara for most wins in Calif by a coach at one school so it looks like McKnight will take over that record when the Monarchs play Norwalk in the second round and then will need 14 more victories to take over the all time California record for wins held by Mike Phelps who coached at both St Josephs of Alameda (1971-78)and Oakland Biship O’Dowd from 1979-90 and 1992-2003. Cvijanovich lost 261 games, Phelps lost 196 and McKnight has lost only 76.

Fryer, its just not in you, is it?

  • Steve Fryer says:

Dana Hills Fan — No, it’s not in me. I don’t know what it is, but whatever it is, it’s not. And I am not sure what it is but I am glad it isn’t. Isn’t it?

  • MannyA says:

…..i just got a bloody nose, thank steve!

  • Scottie K 65 says:

how bad will Fullerton’s basketball team be this season? I see their new coach is Jesse Jackson after Bill Czech left for Hope University. They have been a team thats been 2nd in Freeway League for a few years now, who might win the first round of the 3A playoffs before falling to much stronger competition in the second or third round. i just have a feeling they won’t be as strong.

  • wgrove says:

If Pacifica can stay healthy, look for them to make a good showing in the empire league.

    • longbeachbound says:

It looks like its going to come down to Kennedy/Cypress for empire league title, and its more exciting because it’s a rivalry game. They’re both looking pretty good so far.
