Here are my top three defensive stars of the first round of the CIF-SS Playoffs.
1. Grant Valenstein, Laguna Hills, DB
Valenstein recovered two fumbles, returning one for a 99-yard touchdown, and intercepted a pass in a 41-13 victory for the Hawks.
2. John Paul Onarto, Servite, DB
Onarto sealed the victory for the Friars by blocking a potential game-tying field goal late in Friday's game against Long Beach Poly. Servite won 21-18.
3. Adam Gann, Trabuco Hills, DB
Gann intercepted a pair of passes Friday night against Pacifica in a 45-6 second round victory for the Mustangs.
