Friday’s second-round game

DANA HILLS (9-2) VS. EDISON (11-0)

Site, time: Orange Coast College, 7:30 p.m.

Outlook: These teams played each other Sept. 17, at Dana Hills. Edison won, 34-17. Dana Hills had a 17-13 halftime lead in that one. Edison quarterback Matt Viles had a hot night, passing for 457 yards and three touchdowns. Top-seeded Edison, which finished No. 1 in the final Orange County poll, beat Long Beach Millikan, 58-14, in the first round last week at Orange Coast College. But the Chargers got some bad news from that game – junior defensive end Charles Burks, who has 14 sacks, broke a fibula and will not play against Dana Hills; Edison coach Dave White said Burks could be ready to play in next week’s semifinals if the Chargers advance. Dana Hills beat Orange Lutheran, 30-10, in the first round last week at Dana Hills. Dolphins quarterback Josh Dean passed for 229 yards and three touchdowns. White was impressed. “Dana Hills is playing with a lot of confidence now,” he said. “They came out knowing they were going to beat Orange Lutheran, and they did.” Dana coach Brent Melbon said the Dolphins were not as physical as they should have been against Edison’s receiving corps, led by Michael Rivera and Jeff Trojan, in the Sept. 17 game. “It looked like we were playing a 7-on-7 game,” said Melbon, comparing it to a passing tournament game. The winner plays the winner of the Bishop Amat of La Puente-Lakewood game in the semifinals Dec. 5.
