anyone see the sophs in the sc-servite game? sc has an o lineman 6'6 240 soph

  • UHwarrior says:

Huh? Los Al, Fountain Valley, Fullerton, Newport Harbor, all fielded players that were as big as the SC o-lineman, who cares? In fact, Fullerton had two starters that were just as big. Notice anything in common with the teams I just listed including SC? They are all out of the playoffs in the first round.

Last year Trabuco Hills and Tustin fielded players that were as big as dinosaurs too, guess what, no rings for them either. So, maybe if the SC lineman grows a few more inches, SC's claim to fame will be they have a 7' 0" 400 lbs. lineman. Niiiice.

BTW, if you're going by roster statistics, that doesn't mean much. Most schools like to oversize their lineman in the stats, to increase their "intimidation" factor with the other team. Then you have a team like Cal high who will list their players undersized, so when the o-line or d-line actually walks to the line the first time in the game it shocks the other team. They did not realize that the roster listed 5'9" 185 lbs. nose tackle, grew six inches and put on 50 lbs. since the last game. C'MON!

    • dad says:

yea but this is a soph. And easily makes that size. i was at the game

    • Country says:

Best example that size doesn't matter. De La Salle. Even during the days of DJ Williams their line were small. It's all about fundamental, the basics, technique.

  • UHwarrior says:

    Your point being?

  • UHwarrior says:

Oooh, I get it now! The bigger the team, the better the team. Gee, I am ignorant. Hmmm, I wonder why all those enormous lineman with the Oakland Raiders, still suck!

    • The Guild says:

Thanks Warrior for making the response that I didn't. What's with some of these short order cooks getting on this site and talking idiocy? I thought that there was a direction he was headed and now I know....what station is the WWF?

    • Just a Fan says:

You must have little man syndrome. All the guy was trying to point out is the size of the sophmore kid, you all don't own this blog.

  • UH Warrior says:

Surfer- Negative, Size does not equal talent. (Besides Bob and someone else posted the same comment four times on two different blog sights. Obviously, they were impressed by the size of this lineman at SC and obviously his size didn't help their cause).

Earlier in the season someone insisted that Newport Harbor should be the favorite to win a league championship because they were the biggest, and the strongest weightlifting team in the county. Turns out they were lucky to make the playoffs (at-large), and were bounced in the first round. So much for being "big and strong". If that's all they had too bad. With all things being equal at this level it's the team with the better coach that will put a W in the win column. Sure, it's great to have strength and size but it shouldn't be the justification for being a good player and team. (When I played ball, the strongest player on our team didn't even start).

Instead of being continually impressed with the size of this Sophomore at SC, the question should be does he have any skills? Is he conditioned? How well did he play? If he just wandered around the field like a big tree, good teams will "cut him down" early every play just to get him out of the way. But, what do I know? Peace.

  • UHwarrior says:

Great. Uh, didn't Mission win that game?

  • bob says:

    UHwarrior has a problem

  • UHwarrior says:

Bob- You're right! I spend way too much time reading these blogs. I need to get back to work and get a life.

  • bob says:

    thats the spirit
