Thanks for the interview. Don has had a long successful run at ET and it looks to continue, especially with the strong SET program that feeds into his program. I really enjoyed watching them - did not give many breaks to NP. As we always say, and Don said - some of the NP shots could of gone either way and it would of been a different game.

Fitting that Wolf Wigo should pay homage to Coach Stoll. He coached Wolf as a 15 year old National player some 20 years ago.

  • Fan of Polo says:

Wolf has some credit with this team as he coached 3 of the kids when they were 12U on the SET program. Jeff Colton has coached all of the starters (minus Rascon) and 3 key reserves. Gotta give credit where it's due.

Folks that keep saying El Toro is nothing without SET seem to fail to realize that ALL of the top high school programs in Southern California owe a great deal to their feeder club programs -- and they all have them, no matter what the sport. What would the Mission Viejo football team be without the Saddleback Valley Bears of Pop Warner? All the top tennis players have their own personal coaches, etc., etc.

Please don't diminish what Coach Stoll and the Chargers have accomplished by saying the credit goes to SET. Their coaches, of course, played a part, but this is El Toro's team.

And, Corey, what I'm guessing you were trying to say is that Coach Stoll is the "husband" of your 7th grade history teacher.

To Bob Rohwer (formerly Bob R.), I don't know about everyone but I for one am getting a bit tired of your rants. I realize you are a cheerleader for Don Stoll but I think you are overdoing it. In the earlier days before your daughter attended the great and powerful El Toro, Stoll didn't want his players to participate in club water polo. Infact, he scorned those that did. Stoll thought the players would get burned out. Infact, SET water polo club was just a babysitters club where the kids ran amuck and was a place for some of his favored students to earn some extra cash. Stoll had the theory that he could develop players beginning at 9th grade. It appears that he may have figured out the error of his ways. Look at any of the better players at El Toro. All of them had experience from club. That's why El Toro finds itself with a couple of CIF and Master Titles or at least in the finals of most tournaments. Unless you know I secret that none of us do.

Get over it. Its a msg board and all are welcome to blog. Seems to be more negative blogs than positive lighten up ....

BTY SET has come along way baby.......

    • PoloBall says:

I believe set is more of a girls program as many of the girls go on to good college programs or div i colleges. On the boys side the program is very weak. There is only 1 boys age group that gets attention and that is the 16under boys.

Good job to El Toro and a great season. El Toro and Newport held up to the hype on how good they actually are. But lets be real about what a feeder program is and does. A traditional feeder program actually feeds its players into the high school they are suppose to attend. SET has helped El Toro tremendously with players that should be at many other high schools. This is especially true in El Toro's starting lineup. I know that those from SET and El Toro disagree with this as they will state this is normal practice and have the right to choose where their kids should go to school.

With that said, once again congratulations to El Toro and coach Stoll on a great season. In the end water polo is water polo and if you love sport the rest does not matter.

  • Bob Rohwer (formerly Bob R.) says:

To Diablo... stay positive, brother! I'm just expressing my opinion, as you are free to express yours, OK? Love ya!
