Football: CIF First Round By the numbers

football_blog6Here is a recap of the action from the first round of the CIF playoffs, according to the numbers.

1992 – The last time Dana Hills won a playoff game before Friday’s 30-10 victory over Orange Lutheran.

18 of 22, 229 yards, 3 tds – Josh Dean’s (Dana Hills) passing stats as he led the Dolphins to the victory.

3 – The number of touchdown passes thrown by Pacifica quarterback Mario Nava in a 27-20 victory over Fullerton.

219-141-6 – Terry Henigan’s career coaching record. Westminster defeated Irvine, 20-16, ending Henigan’s 29-year coaching career.

268 – Combined rushing yards for the Servite trio of Cody Fajardo (102), Chris Nicholls (83) and Sean DeRosa (83) as the Friars defeated San Clemente, 38-10.

273 and 3 – Rushing yards gained and touchdowns scored by Fountain Valley running back Kyle Middlebrooks in a losing effort against Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks.

42 – Consecutive points scored in the first half for the Edison in a 58-14 victory over LB Millikan.

222 and 4 – Combined rushing yards and touchdowns scored by El Dorado’s Seth Davis (121 yards and 2 tds) and Jordan Long (101 and 2) in a 42-14 first round victory over Santa Ana Valley.

5 – Sacks recorded by the El Toro defense in a 14-7 victory over Villa Park.

329 and 4 – Rushing yards and touchdowns scored by Anthony Wilkerson (Tustin) as the Tillers defeated Valencia, 31-14. Wilkerson accounted for all but 16 yards of the Tillers’ offensive output.

12 of 14, 252 yards, 4 tds – Passing stats for La Habra quarterback Cody Clements in a 52-10 victory over Kennedy.

24 – Consecutive points scored by Long Beach Poly after falling behind 7-0 in a first round game against Los Alamitos. Final score: Poly 24, Los Alamitos 7.

5 – Touchdowns scored by Cypress running back Akeelie Muhammad as the Centurions opened the playoffs with a 44-14 victory over Troy.

3 – Length of Brian Murrieta’s (Segerstrom) game-winning touchdown run in overtime to lead the Jaguars to a 41-35 victory over Mayfair.

270 – Combined yards gained by Garden Grove quarterback Sean Young (136 passing and 134 rushing) as the Argonauts eliminated Bellflower, 41-13. Young rushed for a touchdown and passed for two.

34 – Points scored by Trabuco Hills in the second quarter of a 53-0 victory over Savanna.

42 – Second half yards allowed by the Mission Viejo defense in a 41-14 victory over LB Wilson.

27 – Consecutive points scored by Mission Viejo to snap a 14-14 tie.
