Water polo predictions: Albano picks Division I finalists

November 18th, 2009, 12:23 am · 14 Comments · posted by DAN ALBANO, ocvarsity.com

boys_wpolo_iconHere are my predictions for Wednesday's Division I boys water polo semifinals:

El Toro def. Loyola - El Toro has taken its game to a new level in recent weeks and has been scoring goals at scary rate. The Chargers' confidence continues to grow with a big road victory.

Newport Harbor def. Corona del Mar - Newport Harbor continues to have Corona del Mar's number, though the Sea Kings play well.

    Spot on, Dan, spot on.

  • Dr. Phil says:

Wow! An OC sports writer picks an all OC final. Who would have predicted that? Maybe after Loyola rocks your little utopian world you will need a little therapy to get you off the ledge. Go Cubs!

    • PoloFan says:

Let's not forget. This is the first time Loyola has ever been in a CIF water polo Semi-final - Ever.

      Temper, Temper, Dr. Phil
Maybe some Anger Management Classes would be helpful.

DON"T JUMP! 31-1 is still a great season.

      ET rocked your little world......
Eric set up Loyola perfectly you had a 25 yard home pool (USC) advantage Loyola had the support of the announcer which Loyola chose
Loyola had plenty of fans to cheer them on guided by a teacher or coach
      Phil.... ET Won

  • Water Polo Fan says:

I hate to say it but Loyola has no weak spots, ET will give them a game but in the end Loyola

  • Bucko says:

ET continues to improve and play their best now when it really matters.
Even moving the game wont change the outcome. CDM shows the same potential. It's all about improving and CDM iwill finally get the monkey off their back. Utopia?? ET vCDM on saturday at Wollett.

    It's all about Karma.

  • jlweath says:

It is history - don't beat ET in the season and have to play them in the playoffs. ET is on a roll now beat Dos Pueblos (they played them in the season the first time by 2, second time beat them by 9) that took Loyola into overtime. Loyola beat them earlier in the season - It will test the metal of Loyola.

  • wpolofan7 says:

I think Loyola will take it 11-9. El Toro's very talented with Rascon, Renteria, and Danner, but Loyola is equally talented and very well-rounded with guys like Vavic, Hurst-Mendoza, and Evans.

  • Bob R. says:

El Toro wins, 10-9. There's a reason Albano picked an all-OC final -- all the very best teams play here. Go Chargers!

  • ETVball09 says:

Never underestimate Charger water polo in the post season. Maybe this is their year?

  • justmyview says:

The game winning DI CIF team will come down to knowledgable coaching and execution.
