Friday’s first-round game

SAN CLEMENTE (6-4) VS. SERVITE (9-1)

Site, time: Cerritos College, 7:30 p.m.

Outlook: San Clemente finished third in the South Coast League with a 3-2 league record. Their league losses were to Mission Viejo and Dana Hills. Tritons quarterback Chase Rettig has thrown for 1,632 yards and 18 touchdowns with 11 interceptions, and has completed 61 percent of his passes. Dominick Ela has 50 receptions for 622 yards and six touchdowns. Fourth-seeded Servite went 5-0 in the Trinity League to take the league championship. Its only loss was to Edison. Servite goes into the playoffs a bit shorthanded. Standout defensive lineman Kirifi Taula won’t play because of a broken arm (he might be back if the Friars advance to the second round) and another top defensive lineman, Troy Niklas, also a good tight end, cannot play yet because of a recent concussion. But nose guard David Perez is back, and that’s good news for Servite. Servite quarterback Cody Farjardo has had a county player-of-the-year type of season, with a team-leading 601 yards rushing (7 yards a carry), completing 72 percent of his passes with 1,647 yards and 14 touchdowns against only two interceptions.

Hopefully Niklas will return this week and Kirifi will be back for the game next week (against Los Al). This team is strong and they're great kids!! Servite 48, San Clemente 17.

If Rettig can throw with no interceptions, San Clemente with its' entire senior defensive front out for the year and only 2 seniors on offensive line will give Servite a game of it.

THE MEN OF SERVITE will get it done. Last yrs. first round loss to Lakewood was embarrassing and Servite will not let it happen again.

not unless friars win it all. and thats a tough call with whats coming up,since trinity was watered down this year theur only real test was to edison which they lost to, and if chargers run table then you got to look at viles in oc or if lakewood goes the distant ,theyre qb. oh by the way looks like the other cody is closing in too.
