The top playoff games on this week’s schedule:
Dana Hills (8-2) vs. Orange Lutheran (6-4)
Friday, 7:30 p.m. at Dana Hills High
Outlook: The Dolphins were picked to finish fourth in the South Coast League according the preseason coaches poll.
The Dolphins, despite the graduation of quarterback Sean Schroeder and Dylan Denso, Anthony Kaspar and others, managed to go 8-2 overall and 4-1 in the league. So much for fourth place.
The Dolphins had a lot of new guys slide into the holes opened by graduation.
Quarterback Josh Dean completed 114 of 190 passes for 1,536 yards for 14 touchdowns. Brandon Howe (699 yards) and Cole Altuzarra (600) combined to rush for 1,299 yards.
Chris Kearney did just about everything. He rushed for 334 yards, had 532 receiving yards and completed two passes.
It seems as if Orange Lutheran started its regular season in July. The Lancers have had to overcome several injuries to key personnel (Bobby Wheatley, Garret Gilliland), but rallied to a second-place finish in the Trinity League.
Mike Markovsky stepped in as quarterback and performed well. He has completed 85 of 137 passes for 1,036 yards and rushed for 360 yards.
Damani Wilson is the team’s leading rusher with 990 yards.
The key will be which team can stop the other’s ground game.
