Newport Harbor coach Jeff Brinkley is across the street from the CIF-Southern Section office here in Los Alamitos, having breakfast with Harbor coaches at Hof’s Hut.
“I figured we would get in,” he said. “Looking at the criteria, we’re the team that fit. I would have been surprised and very disappointed if we didn’t get in.”
Harbor was the No. 4 team in the Sunset League — the top three teams were guaranteed entry into the Pac-5 Division playoffs, so Harbor had to hope for the division’s at-large berth, which it got this morning. Coin flips made Harbor the No. 4 team, after it finished in a three-way tie for second in the Sunset with Los Alamitos and Fountain Valley.
Congratulations!
Good for Newport! Go Dana Hills Dolphins!
Tesoro would smoke Newport Harbor. No love for the South Coast League.
JR.. The South Coast is weak this year, the Sunset is very strong. There was a 3 way tie for second in the Sunset with Newport loosing in a coin flip. This year Tesoro was down, they barely competed in their own league, so be careful before you bang on the Sunset league. Maybe in the years to come these 2 teams can play each other and we can see for a fact who would get smoked. But until then… see you in the stands watching playoffs like Aliso and Capo.
GO HARBOR!!! My nephew will be there next year & he’s tearing it up for the Newport Seahawks!
