Here’s a prediction for Tuesday’s boys water polo playoffs:

Division II first round

J.W. North (14-10) at El Modena (21-6), 3:15 p.m.

Outlook: The Vanguards finished a strong second to Villa Park in the Century League. They’re a versatile offensive team that shoots well from the perimeter. Lucas Spencer and Thomas Patterson form an excellent 1-2 combination and goalie David Wallace is solid – 10 saves against Villa Park in Century League championship match. El Mo was originally scheduled to take on a fourth-place Norco team from the Big VIII but now plays host to the fifth-place team from the league.

Albano’s prediction: El Modena wins and plays at South Pasadena in the second round. The Vanguards have quarterfinals written all over them.
