Here’s a prediction for Tuesday’s boys water polo playoffs:
Division II first round
Capo Valley (16-12) at LB Millikan (17-10), 3:15 p.m.
Outlook: The speedy Cougars finished third in the South Coast League and are back in the playoffs for the first time since 2002. Coach Steve Yancey’s squad has been a fixture in the Albano Top 25 Index and feature a solid 1-2 scoring tandem in overall-aquatics standout Spenser Goodman and Chad Farnan. Millikan placed third in the Moore League.
Albano’s prediction: Cougars win and meet No. 2 seeded JSerra in the second round Thursday. That might not seem like much reward but Cats last won a playoff match in 1997. So Tuesday is a big step.
