Here's a prediction for Tuesday's boys water polo playoffs:
Division II first round
Canyon (16-12) vs. Servite (11-18) at Tustin, 6 p.m.
Outlook: The Friars were one of the surprises of the postseason last season, reaching the Division II finals. They have been under the Top 10 radar this fall but have a talented 1-2 combination in Nate Little and Spencer Van Horne. Servite also showed some toughness in playing No. 2 seed JSerra within two goals despite not having its coach (out with suspension). Servite might be ready for to make another playoff run. Canyon took fourth in the Century League.
Albano's prediction: Servite
Servite really misses Sprague. Moose is good but he is no Sprague....never will be. 11-18 record is unacceptable for the Friars...my alma mater. Come on Moose Man! Time to deliver on your promise. Either make good or move on.
Dont think its fair to blame Mus...He had a great run last year, and this year his team has played hard, but its not like the old days, when the Trinity league didnt have the commitment to water polo that they do now...Sprague was a master, and was great, but now MD,Serra and Santa Margarita all have pools and great talent, and thereis a a league of parity....Servite could have a much better record but its a tribute to the kids and to Mus to play the schedule they do, which is as tough as anyone s...
I hope that we're all in agreement on one point, that there isn't another school that has more PRIDE and COURAGE and DISCIPLINE and it speaks to the quality of all athletics at Servite , which seek out the best competition available.
Credo.
Servite alum...
I can't believe you would compare Sprague to Mus.
Mus is young, innovative and motivating. Sprague had a good run but he needs to enjoy the sport from the stands. His current contributions are not well received.
