Here’s my look at the Division VI boys water polo playoff bracket:
Top seeds: No. 1 Webb (26-3); No. 2 Rio Mesa (24-4); No. 3 Crescenta Valley (18-8); No. 4 Walnut (22-6)
Best first-round match Tuesday: For Orange County’s hopes, it might be Orange playing host to Pacific at Chapman University. Orange finished second in the Golden West League while Pacific is an at-large from the San Andreas League.
Darkhorses: Pasadena Poly – finished second in the toughest league in the division – the Prep League. Pasadena Poly also is fourth in the final coaches’ poll but isn’t seeded in the top-four. Orange County’s best hope is Golden West League champion Saddleback but the Roadrunners got a tough draw in Chadwick, the third-place team from the Prep. After that, No. 2 Rio Mesa would likely await in the quarterfinals.
Players to watch: Saddleback has a talented sophomore duo in Miguel Mendez and Francisco Gonzalez, who have combined for 175 goals. But defending champion Crescenta Valley has a standout junior goalie in Rane Colvin, who was first-team All-CIF last season.
Defending champion: Crescenta Valley. Falcons defeated Rio Mesa, 10-9, in the final last year.
Strongest league: Prep League – home to Webb, Pasadena Poly and Chadwick
