Dana Hills is the big mover this week jumping up two spots in this week’s rankings.
Bishop Amat jumps up one spot. Fountain Valley drops one and Orange Lutheran falls out, replaced by Crespi.

Norte Dame looked real good this week against a mediocre Loyola club. However, the Serra league is strong this year. Their top two in the PAC-5 Div. top 10 are very good. I was surprised that Crespi upset Bishop Amat though. I guess that saying “on any given night” holds true. ND and BA will give the trinity, sunset and southcoast leagues everything they can handle. The Lancers are the team I pick to be the dark horse in the playoffs, I guarantee they’ll upset some people.
I agree with you on all counts Warrior, but don’t discount Crespi, who will more likely head into the playoffs with a head of steam, while Amat may be a little down after losing their last two games, cause I do believe that ND will defeat them this week. No matter the outcome, if any of the Serra face a South Coast contender, my gut takes the Serra rep. Crespi wants a rematch with Servite and that incentive will play big. I wouldn’t want to face them, unless I’m a Friar! I am!
Credo
The CIF playoffs will be very embarrasing to the top 10 prognosticators, because it will be then that Mission Viejo either beats Edison or advances further than Edison does in the playoffs. Edison does not have the talent, team speed (both sides of the ball), discipline, flawless execution or aggressive team play that Mission Viejo has. After watching both teams play, it is obvious that Mission Viejo is by far the better team. So either the top 10 voters have not seen Mission Viejo play or they are obviously biased in their selection, no matter, they will be embarrased in the CIF playoffs, because as the saying goes, action speaks and BS walks. So Albano, Fryer and Calhoun get ready to start walking.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Sorry Dave white and Edison win with class. Unlike Johnson and MV. 70-7 on a team that has 0 talent? That’s far. I dont care if you say class is class. Dave White called the dogs off of your second best league team in Dana Hills. That game would have ended up 56-17 if he hadnt of pulled Viles and company. Team speed? Are you joking me? have you seen ophrey destroy defenses? Rivera run away from people? And hitting hard? ask ragland and middlebrooks about getting blown up by edisons defense. Sorry Edison wins with class. Your league has 1 team in the CIF top 2 and 2 in the County top 10. Sunset league has 3 in PAC-5 top 10, and a very good Newport team. It’s gonna be funny when MV’s lack of schedule comes back to bite them in the playoffs or hell even this friday against Dana. Go Chargers. I doubt you could handle FV’s offense. That we held to 124 yards. A team that averaged 30 points a game. Are you blind? or just dumb?
Look harder at the poll & rankings (Massey, Rivals 100, CalHiSports, SportsPower, etc.)…the computers or people running them can’t all be wrong. Add this to strength of schedule (just a quick look at the rankings/records of the teams beat should do) and I believe Edison has earned every bit of where they are. It still comes down to putting it out on the field, and speculating about outcomes like SoCalNative is doing means nothing (just ask the blog supporters of the teams Edison has beat on the field).
We don’t know how good Mission Viejo is. There schedule has been pretty easy up to this point. Dana Hills will be their big test. Edison’s schedule has been much more difficult. Pound for pound Edison has the edge against Mission Viejo in the CIF Finals.
I am sorry that socalnative1 post here, that is the same post he is copying everywhere. I ripped him for his post in the “Big Week 9 sets up drama for league finales” comment area. Those who have read it or may go and read it, I apologize now before you go and read it. lol.
He has no clue and gives the rest of us MV supports a bad name.
Guild,
Vista is ranked 7th San Diego with 7-2 record. Their other loss was to #9 Escondido. Vista ave score is 29 and they give up ave 8 MV score 41-17
Murreita Valley is ranked #10 in the inland division. They have lost to
#4 Undefeated Rancho Verde by a score of 42-44 and #7 Chaparral.
They ave 43 points a game and almost 500 yds in total offense.
There other loss was to #2 Undefeated MV, who held them to 7 points.
They play #2 Vista Murreita for the league Championship this week.
Corona has turned out to be a weak team but going into the season they were a favorite team with the #2 RB in the southland Jordan James. That looked like it was going to be a good game, kinda like Poly should have been a good game.
Loyola – again, had the #1 ranked RB with Anthony Barr, they were not considered to be weak. Loyolas head coach’s comment after the game, MV dominated us on both sides of the football.
So much for your knowledge of San Diego and Inland Empire football.
Tony, I live and work in San Diego in Escondido and the desparity after the top 5 teams is akin to the difference between the Sunset and the Freeway. Oceanside, La Costa Canyon and Cathedral Catholic are the only teams in the same league as the top twenty OC teams…trust me. Same quality as Murrieta Valley.
I can respect that but also have seen many of these games. I dont hold the same opinion that the drop off is as great as you have said, but I understand the point you are making.
Half of the teams in the Pac 5 could not beat Vista though, and that is not saying much sometimes I know, but they could be very competitive with the other half. I think when we only see the very top teams play, we dont really give the teams who are on the edge enough credit.
Look at CC, they have always been as good as they are considered to be now. But they had to schedule a few Pac 5 (Div 1) teams to get any credit. Playing CC today is not considered “soft” however for a long time it was CC, oh ya, good team but cant compete with the big boys.
I will agree that these teams my not win a championship at the Pac 5 level, but they can compete at this level, and I wouldnt call them soft. You have to play your a game if you dont want an upset.
In the past Vista played FV and Bishop Amat, and won to, they were not talked about being soft then. Servite, ranked # and top team in the state, just beat Chaparral 28-21, that game could have gone the other way. So the Inland Empire is not that soft.
We could go on about this for an hour I think in person, lol, we just dont agree at this time on just how soft or how competitive these teams are.
I’ve actually never stated that MV has a soft schedule, just not of the caliber of Edison, Servite, MD, OL, Crespi, CC. I gave props to MV for scheduling outside of OC. Murrieta Valley is not a top team in IE.
As for Chaparral playing Servite w/o Nichols (a major threat) on their home turf with tremendous upside, and after the Friars had suffered their only blemish…you get where I’m coming from. Thomas doesn’t choose to run up scores to prove dominance. If you viewed the Servite/MD game then you know the score wasn’t indicative of the overall superiority of the Friars that nite and the win over OL last week was more than impressive.
My wish is for the Diablos and the Friars to meet in the semis and then the final with Servite vs Edison, as I’ve said previous. I believe the best two teams would be in that game.
You make lots of sense Tiger, on your thought processes. I have respect.
Oh, by the way, I coached for five years in Temecula and seven in San Diego and know what I speak about when we discuss quality. If you care to know of my resume Tony, just ask. Be a good MV fan and root your heart out. My belief is that they will face a Serra or Trinity team before ever having a chance at Edison and meet their demise. Johnson will run into a coach with savy and horses to use with more depth at his disposal. JMO.
I have been a Referee and Umpire for 20 years not all at the Varsity level but I have seen my fair share of games. I dont need your resume nor do you need mine, we just dont see eye to eye on this issue is all. But then ..when do coaches and referee’s ever see it completely eye to eye…lol….
The team that is lucky in the top 10 is Crespi, Their win over Bishop Amat may have saved their bacon. The reason for them being lucky, their other 4 wins are over teams that are 9-26. Talk about an easy schedule to the playoffs. They still have to beat Loyola this week, but Loyola is only 3-6 also, that is making it to the playoffs winning just 6 games, and beating 5 of those teams with records of 12-32 today.
And Crespi is just the type of team that will let us all discover the true depth of MV. I do believe you are or were a big proponent of Amat.
MV is a good team, yet Edison deserves #1 ranking because it’s justifiable with wins over LB Wilson, Dana Hills, Servite, Mater Dei, Los Alamitos, Fountain Valley and Newport Harbor, all teams currently ranked in the Pac 5 as of this date.
If MV prevails against Dana Hills, it’s unlikely that MV will play Edison early in the playoffs. CIF will place them in opposite brackets, yet should Edison and MV meet in the finals, I’ll root for Edison to win.
The season isn’t over yet, so let’s wait until Sunday to analyze and predict the outcome of the playoffs. Regardless, the young men who play the game are all winners for having the courage to play the game.
You are so right. The kids are “what it is all about”. My son’s varsity team took their first loss last week and that certainly made me think about all the hype that is out there. I have now “stepped back” a little.
It’s going to be MV and EHS in CIF finals and Edison will win cause they have the experience of beating very decent teams servite, mater dei even though their like 5-4, dana hills which will open up MV defense, FV and they’ve been averaging 39 points a game and we shut them out, our defense scoring three scores on Los Al and Newport is an alright team. every team Edison has played has a winning percentage over 500.besides 3 teams. 53-50 overall and MV has played 6 teams that are under 500. 43-47 overall.
I LIKE EDISON AT #1. GOOD CALL. THE REAL TEST WILL BE VS DANA HILLS FOR MISSION. EDISON BEAT THEM. LETS SEE WHAT MISSION WILL DO?
i would love to see EDISON VERSUS SERVITE FOR THE PAC-5 TITLE AT ANGEL STADIUM?
IT WOULD BE A CLASH OF THE GREATS AND COULD BE REVENGE FOR THE FRIARS AS WELL
enough of this schedule crap on mv. they sched some pretty good san diegoteams and 1 outa 2 inland. seems to me that if you dont play in oc your considered soft.why? is oc football the mecca of h/s sports, i dont thimk so. could those teams on mv sched have beaten mira costa or some other non county team the rest of oc played , absolutly.
All due respect, because MV does schedule outside of OC, but this year there were weak teams in the Inland Empire in Corona and Murrieta Valley and no top San Diego team. League play is tougher this year than nonleague. They won’t play anyone “soft” in the playoffs and won’t be running up the score.
