A guide to the action
The Division II-A playoffs (click here for the bracket):
County teams: 7 – Troy; Fullerton; La Habra; Cypress; Pacifica; Valencia; Kennedy
County seeds (among top four): No. 2 Troy
About the draw: Troy is among six teams with a first-round bye. The Warriors don’t figured to be threaten until their semifinal match against La Canada, ranked and seeded No. 3 in the division. Cypress has a good shot of facing Troy in the quarterfinals. Valencia and Kennedy both have difficult first-round assignments and are underdogs. Fullerton, La Habra and Pacifica have a great shot of reaching the second round, but all would play seeded teams.
Best first-round match: Fullerton and San Marino. San Marino is the No. 3 team from the Rio Hondo League, the same league as La Canada. Fullerton has seen what Troy has to offer, so both teams have faced stiff league opponents.
Comments: Troy is among the few teams that could win the division, and that’s great news for county fans. However, the Warriors are going to face strong caliber teams in the semifinals, and should they win, the final. They haven’t been tested in a long time so we’ll how they react. It would be fun to see Cypress reach the quarterfinals and play Troy. I’m not sure if anyone other team can make noise, but we’ll see.
