Football: Tobolski’s top 10 vote

November 8th, 2009, 7:01 pm · · posted by

football_blogAs we enter the final week of the regular season, that means there is only one more vote to come.

How time flies. Anyways, here’s the second-to-last ballot I submitted.

1. Edison: For whom the bell tolls. Chargers further solidify top spot.

2. Mission Viejo: Diablos get ready for Dana Hills this week. Just a hunch, but I don’t see it being close. Mission’s true test is playoffs.

3. Servite: Friars seem to be playing sharp heading into the playoffs. Just one more victory to seal the perfect league run.

4. Dana Hills: Like I was saying above, sometimes you need to be careful what you wish for. A showdown with Mission Viejo can be a brutal time.

5. Los Alamitos: Close call with Esperanza doesn’t prevent Los Al from moving up.

6. Fountain Valley: Barons need to regroup for game with Los Al, but Griffins’ defense isn’t going to be any easier to try and get points on than Edison’s.

7. Orange Lutheran: I bumped Orange Lutheran down a spot after losing to Servite.

8. La Habra: Same as last week.

9. Tustin: Same as last week.

10. Mater Dei: Same as last week.

11-09-09: This weeks’ OC top 10 and Fryer’s teams 11-25

Football: Albano’s Top 10 vote

Football: Eichelberger’s Top 10 vote

Football: Fryer’s Top 10 vote

Football: Calhoun’s top 10 vote

WHO DEY GON BEAT DEM FRIARZ?

Not so sure on the strength of the Trinity, except Servite.

I see a Servite / Edison rematch coming soon in the final brackets. That will be a great game if Servite plays at the level they’ve been playing currently. Servite has something to prove and Edison will play tough.

Mater Dei in the Top 10 seems more like a gift from performance of years past – no knock on Rollie. R4R = Respect 4 Rollie. They will get better, but so will Servite.

OLU needs to find an identity, but somehow can always find a way to perform. I see them having a tougher time moving forward.

This year I think it is OK to give Servite the only recognition from the Trinity and find replacements in the Top 10 for the other two. There are other schools that deserve these sports.

    Sorry “spots”

The CIF playoffs will be very embarrasing to the top 10 prognosticators, because it will be then that Mission Viejo either beats Edison or advances further than Edison does in the playoffs. Edison does not have the talent, team speed (both sides of the ball), discipline, flawless execution or aggressive team play that Mission Viejo has. After watching both teams play, it is obvious that Mission Viejo is by far the better team. So either the top 10 voters have not seen Mission Viejo play or they are obviously biased in their selection, no matter, they will be embarrased in the CIF playoffs, because as the saying goes, action speaks and BS walks. So Albano, Fryer and Calhoun get ready to start walking.

I wonder how many diffrent zip codes that Mission Viejo team has? There is no shame in Bob Johnson game.

Los Al is 7 pt favorite over the Barons

  • OC fan says:

Mission Viejo and Dana Hills are still not as good as everyone thinks. I may eat my words in the playoffs but if you look at their strength of schedule you will see that:

Strength of schedule ranking for California, per USA Today Massey Poll:

    Servite #1
    Edison #2
    Mater Dei #4
    Orange Lutheran #5
    Mission Viejo #32
    Dana Hills #25

South county needs to come up and play the big boys so some of these top 10 votes are easier

      Max Preps Ranks Nationally:
Edison #2, Mission Viejo 15, Servite #23, Dana Hills #86 and Orange Lutheran is buried down to #306. Mater Dei is #281. La Habra #233. Los Alamitos #172. Fountain Valley #168.

In Orange County, only four teams rank in the top 100 Nationally.

      OC fan,
Look at all of the Massey ratings. You can have the BEST schedule, but if your defense is lacking (which shows on the Servite rating) then Servite will drop below Edison and Mission which have better stats on Defense and Offense. When it comes down to it, the only way to solve the question of who is better… is to have a face to face showdown and see who comes up the victor that day. Servite already lost to Edison 23-9. OUCH! You still think Servite is better? It’s pretty lonely over in that camp, isn’t it.

  • anonymous says:

    Per Massey Ratings (Nov 10)
    State Rankings:
#1 Edison, #2 Mission Viejo, #3 Servite, #20 Dana Hills, #22 Fountain Valley, #31 Los Alamitos, #37 Mater Dei, #42 Orange Lutheran

    • anonymous says:

Massey National Rankings on November 10
only two are top 25. Servite is NOT one of them.
      6 Edison
      10 Mission Viejo

Looks like North Orange County needs to come South to meet some REAL MEN. See ya in playoffs!

  • mvfan says:

Big Whoop for strength of schedule. What does that matter when you are 5-4, or when you are getting beat by 20 points?

I enjoy reading these rankings, they make for some good conversation. But no team that gets beat by 20 (sorry, OLu) should be ranked in the county Top 10. Ditto no teams that are only one game above .500 (sorry, Church League). C’mon pundits, let’s make this debate even better among all OC fans! It’s 2009, not last year. Stop rating based on tradition and add in some current reality.

Last blast, have to agree with SoCalNative- I have seen the top three all play (and before you disagree, have you?), and Mission will throttle Edison if they get the chance.
