Girls volleyball: Thursday’s recap

girls_volleyball_blogAs the final Thursday of the league season comes to a close around the county, here is a look at some of action.

 


In the Sunset League:

No. 1 Los Alamitos 3, Marina 1: The host Griffins (26-7; 9-1) closed the regular season as league co-champions by posting a four set win over the Vikings 25-10, 21-25, 25-20, 25-14. Christina Harris led Los Alamitos with 14 kills.

No. 2 Newport Harbor 3, Edison 0: The Sailors claimed their share of the league title with a sweep of the third place Chargers (12-7; 6-4) 25-21, 25-17, 25-16 at Edison High.

 
In the Pacific Coast League:

No. 5 Corona del Mar 3, Beckman 0: The Sea Kings (22-4; 10-0) clinched the league title and a perfect league season with a 25-16, 25-17, 25-16 sweep of the Patriots (21-5; 8-2) at Corona del Mar High. Maddy Smith chipped in 34 assists and 11 digs for Corona del Mar.

 

In the Freeway League:

No. 6 Troy 3, Sonora 0: Juliana Crum put down 13 kills, and Maddy Barrett added 11 kills, as the league champion Warriors (23-3; 10-0) completed their undefeated league season with a 25-9, 25-15, 25-11 over the Raiders at Troy High. Jacquie Brice added 40 assists for Troy, while Nikki Brice had 20 digs.

 

In the Garden Grove League:

Garden Grove 3, Santiago 2: The Argonauts (14-2; 10-0) were stretched to the limit before holding off the Cavaliers (4-12; 2-8) 25-19, 23-25, 25-12, 26-28, 15-11 at Santiago High. Krista Kelly led Garden Grove with 14 kills.

La Habra 3, Fullerton 0: Tessa Martin had a team-high 16 kills to guide the Highlanders (16-11; 7-3) over the Indians 25-15, 25-19, 26-24 at La Habra High.

 

In the Orange Coast League:

Calvary Chapel 3, Estancia 0: Spurred by 16 kills, 16 digs, and five aces from Taylor Manuel, the Eagles swept Estancia 25-19, 25-22, 25-12 at Calvary Chapel High.
