Girls tennis: St. Margaret’s streak reaches 45

girls_tennis_iconSt. Margaret’s football team’s county-record 44-game winning streak ended earlier this season to Francis Parker.

However, there’s another Tartans winning streak that’s still going. The girls tennis team closed out a perfect 10-0 Academy League schedule last week to push their consecutive match streak to 45.

St. Margaret’s, ranked No. 1 in the CIF-SS Division IV coaches’ poll, is the defending CIF champion, with their last loss coming in the CIF semifinals in 2007.

The Tartans posted a 25-0 record during the title run last season, and are currently 20-0 this season heading into next week’s playoff.

There was a scare to the streak this season in a match against Sage Hill, which is ranked No. 2 in Division IV. St. Margaret’s pulled out a victory on games, 59-57, on Oct. 13. The Tartans defeated Sage, 12-6, in the next meeting.

It’s possible the team’s meet for a third time in the CIF final, which would be a rematch of last year’s championship match. If that’s the case, St. Margaret’s would be going for win No. 50 in a row.
