    Just a note:
I admit the Sea View match ups aren’t as exciting as the rest of the games this week, but, if Trabuco wins it pretty much locks in their League championship. The El Toro vs Huntington game will most likely determine second and third place in league. Not headline news, but note worthy for the Sea View.

  • Steve Fryer says:

I’m with ya — fine year for Trabuco. That’s always a good football league. What I do is try to pick the eight most-evenly matched top games of the week … You won’t see me spotlight and predict a first-place team vs. a last-place team, for example.

    • Thhfan says:

I know your focus was on undefeated match ups, and I appreciate that. Just had to put in a plug for the Sea View.

  • MJ says:

The Tillers should win this game, but it’ll be tough. Hopefully Wilkerson puts up big numbers on the ground, but coach Miller’s gonna have to throw the ball a dozen times to keep El-Do off-balance because they’re gonna put 7 or 8 guys in the box….which is a perfect situation to throw a quick hitch pass to Dominique Coutrie in open space one-on-one against those DB’s.

    Tustin by 14…at least.

    • Magillacutty says:

      MJB,

With 7 or 8 in the box, the defense is still at a disadvantage.
The Double Wing is an eleven man offense. Tustin eleven vs.
El Dorado (7-8) , kapish. To properly defeat the Double Wing
one must use the 10-1 defense. “A” gap the guards, bearcrawling low.
Defensive tackles must cut block the “o” tackles and grab grass
18″ behind the outside foot. O.L.B. , play head up (standing stance)
on the T.E. ( jamb and play run, man coverage). Ends sprint to the level of deepest back and play the rocket and lazer sweep. Corners on l.o.s., head-up on wings in man coverage. Corners must stay home on motion, checking fullback trap, then counter before pursuing on “D” side of ball taking cutback lane away. The “1″ of the 10-1 is the M.L.B., who must be careful not to over pursue. Magilla’s been playing against the D.W. for nearly ten years now. What’s funny is most high school coaches won’t defend the D.W. as well as a youth coach because their afraid to place defenders up on the l.o.s.

You are the D Coordinater for all times, Gorilla! I have a very good friend of mine up North nin Clovis that made a reputation stopping the dw by employing the basic tactics that you describe, but like all of today’s coaches, the nomenclature is deceives the eye.
Where you been, my brother, caged, encarcerated or gainfully employed? Been missin your critiques and sledgehammer, yet subtle, comments.

        • Magillacutty says:

          Guild,

Magilla’s business got a little busier. Magilla must make dough to pay
for all the damn bananas. Good luck against Olu. B.T.W. , Kunau is a flippin great coach. He’s a master at sustaining drives.

      • The Guild says:

I agree with your assessment on Kunau, and he is undoubtedly one of the top guys around. I pray that the Friars will continue with their current focus and that the incentive to win out for the remainder of the season is centered on one play at a time. The same level but high energy that you coach your PW’s to attain.
        Go Sailors!

Your “Ocvarsity Football Challenge” link is dead

ThhFan: Our “biggest game” was three weeks ago =)

  • Steve Fryer says:

    1. We had some link issues at various areas this evening …

    2. As I am faltering in the OCVarsity Football Challenge,” I wish that link was dead for good so nobody could see it!

  • ocfanatic says:

hey how about you put a good game up there like the canyon villa park game

  • ocsportfan says:

hey how about high lighting some special team guys.who do you see as the top kickers and punters in the oc?

  • Larry says:

I think Cypress would like to have their only loss back. A 5 point loss to Mater Dei at Mater Dei’s field. Even with that game in the stats, Cypress has outscored their apponents 43 to 11. Nobody in the Empire league has even been close. All blow outs. No difference tonight or next week.
