November 4th, 2009, 10:35 pm · · posted by

boys_wpolo_iconLos Alamitos’ young boys water polo team has defeated Esperanza, 9-6, for second place in the Sunset League.

Could the Griffins’ next opponent be Sea View League runner-up Northwood in the first round of the Division I playoffs?

Northwood coach Ed Carrera must believe its a possibility because he was at Newport Harbor on Wednesday night to film the Los Alamitos-Esperanza tilt

Ed Carrera sighting last week at the Irvine-Huntington Beach game with his video camera. Appears that he is covering all his bases.

Coach Arroyo (LB State) ,Coach Kocur (Pepperdine) Coach Carrera (Concordia). We’re all at the game.

It’s not on the OC Varsity schedule, but Los Alamitos will get a taste of the toast of the Sea View League when it plays at No. 1 El Toro on Friday at 4 p.m. El Toro closes its regular season with a noon game on Saturday against visiting San Clemente.

Chargers looked incredible in thoroughly dominating Foothill on Wednesday, though the 17-10 score doesn’t do their effort justice. Chargers were up, I believe, 14-3, at halftime and most of the starters never touched water in the second half. But at least the reserves received a lot of playing time, thanks to Coach Stoll.

  • Trust me says:

Are you kidding, the Los Al Team is no younger than any other team in league. The OC Reg is trumping up that Los Al freshman kids, kinda like the did with Ferretti and nothing…. Los Al got spanked so bad by el Toro tonight they’ll be licking their wounds until that freshman is out of high school. Ouch!

  • Bob R. says:

But then all but about five of Los Al’s varsity team came back and played El Toro’s JV team a few minutes later and managed to avenge the whipping they took at the hands of the Chargers varsity. Quite a drop-off from last year’s Los Al team.

  • whats up with that says:

So Bob R. You are saying that some of the kids from Los Al, who just finished playing in the varsity game played in the JV game as well? Can that be right, is that OK or allowed?

  • Bob R. says:

Evidently so. JV is sorta set up for those players who didn’t get much/any playing time in either the more-prestigious frosh-soph game and/or the varsity game. That’s not the case at El Toro, where there are plenty enough players to fully stock all three teams (four, actually, with a novice group). Some schools, however, with smaller programs, allow kids to play with more than one team on any given game day.

  • Los Al Watcher says:

Whatever kudos go to Los Al, watch out for their #9, a player who is not that good and must have an axe to grind because of it.
Some day he will really hurt someone. . . . hopefully his Dad will be on hand to help out. “Is there a doctor in the house?” Free medical care may keep this family from a lawsuit.

  • Bob R. says:

Wow, Los Al Watcher, do you really have to resort to personal attacks against a high school athlete in your blog? And, oh, yes, “kudos” to some of Los Al’s varsity for being able to beat El Toro’s junior varsity after being handed their suits by the Chargers’ varsity.

  • respond says:

Bob R. CIF Rules state that once a varsity player has played in a varsity game, he cannot play in the jv game. Only those varsity players who did not play in the varsity game are eligible to participate in the jv game. One game per day provided that the player is eligible.
Coaches have played juniors in frosh/soph tourneys. Doesn’t mean its right and just because the coach got away with it, doesn’t give the coach the right to plead ignorance. Break a rule, suffer the consequences. But with a commissioner like Palle who his chasing her tail on a daily basis, many CIF rules are broken and no consequences result.
