Aliso Niguel senior swimmer Rheanna Vaughn, one of Orange County’s most consistent and versatile performers, has picked her college destination.
The former CIF champion has been accepted by the U.S. Naval Academy and has committed to race for the Mids, she said in an e-mail Tuesday.
Her is some of what Vaughn wrote about her decision:
“I had many great colleges to choose from but chose the Naval Academy because of their coaches, TEAM and city of Annapolis! Also the career opportunities are endless!”
Vaughn is an impressive get for Navy.
As a junior, she finished a narrow-second in the 500-yard freestyle in Division I in a quick 4:50.86 and took fourth in the 100 fly (55.10).
As a sophomore, she won the Division I crown in the 500 free (4:52.78) and took the bronze in the fly.
Vaughn isn’t the first female swimmer I’ve covered to pick Navy. Kennedy sprinter Thuy-Mi Dinh – from one of the nicest families I’ve ever met in high school sports – is now a senior at Navy and a doing very well.
I’m sure Vaughn will be outstanding performer for the Mids, too.
Yayyy gooo RV!
Rheanna Rocks!
We love you so much….have fun at Annapolis!
