No. 2 Mission Viejo (8-0, 3-0) vs. No. 12 San Clemente (5-3, 2-1)
Friday, 7 p.m. at San Clemente High

Outlook: The high-scoring Diablos continue their quest toward a South Coast League title as they visit the Tritons. Mission Viejo has scored 60 and 70 points in each of their previous two games, both victories, in case you were wondering.

The Diablos are averaging 45 points a game. They have been held under 40 points only twice this season (Loyola and Capistrano Valley).

On the defensive side of the ball, Mission Viejo has allowed just 66 points in eight games (8.2 a game).

How can you compete against that?

Well, that’s up to San Clemente this week. The Tritons, behind quarterback Chase Rettig, are coming off of a 34-28 victory over Tesoro last week. Rettig completed 18 of 29 passes for 291 yards and four touchdowns last week.

The Tritons defense forced five turnovers against the Titans. Can they force the Mission Viejo offense into mistakes?

The Diablos are unbeaten against the Tritons since 1999.

Will the streak continue?

whats the status of Marshall and his shoulder? He is the key to this game just as he was last year

  • UHWarrior says:

Mission is just too much for everyone this year. SC’s got some great skill players and I give them the QB edge with Rettig. But the Mission speed and size will too overwhelming.

    Mission 45- SC 21

  • 2002tony says:

Just a quick note about the 1st team defensive unit, they have only given up 24 points in 8 game, the rest of those points were scored after they left the field.

    2002tony…

That defensive stat is frightening….Home SC game, best riveraly game in the SCL Mission the better team! By all rights it should be a 48 point win for the Diablos….but the ghosts of game’s past tell me differentlly! Close game Friday night….I love this game! We’ll see….

    • 2002tony says:

Best time to score for SC will be in their opening drive, and then in the rest of the 1st quarter. That is when 2 touchdown and a field goal have been scored against MV D, one more TD in the second quarter.

First team has not given up a TD so far in 2nd half when they have been in there. Points scored in 2nd half been scored on 2nd team defensive unit.

  • Elma says:

El Modena should be No. 1

  • Hank says:

San Clemente must play error free and watch Mission isn’t going to hit them with a few big plays. The Tritons always play well at home. A Triton win looks to give Dana Hills a long awaited piece of the league title. Go SC!!!

  • anonymous says:

SC needs to rock all the way to the end. It will be about stamina and perseverance.

The reason everyone who likes to predict and analyze high school football games has to get their stats in early, is because they dont mean squat once the game begins. LOL,

SC has played extremely well against MV the last 4 years, either away or home, I expect nothing but the same this week.

Tritons have shown to lay some good ball on the road this year as well, like last week.

It’s going to be a great game.
