
With a big slate of big games on the schedule throughout the county, here is a look at some of Thursday’s results.
In the Sunset League:
No. 2 Los Alamitos 3, No. 1 Newport Harbor 2: Jane Croson had 25 kills, as the Griffins (24-7; 7-1) rallied from a 2-1 deficit to beat the top-ranked Sailors (20-4; 7-1) in five 25-19, 21-25, 22-25, 25-23, 15-9 at Los Alamitos High. Kirby Burnham led Newport Harbor with 13 kills, while Cinnamon Asry had 40 assists. Both teams are now tied for the top spot in the league with two games remaining next week.
In the Pacific Coast League:
No. 5 Corona del Mar 3, University 0: Hailey Senske led a balanced Sea King attack with 10 kills, while Morgan Boukather added eight kills and three aces as Corona del Mar (18-3; 8-0) defeated the Trojans 25-14, 25-14, 25-20 at University High. Madison Smith dished out 27 assists for the Sea Kings.
Beckman 3, Laguna Hills 1: Nina Stenlund had 23 kills, while Lydia Bai chipped in with 17 kills, as the Patriots (22-6; 7-1) remained a game behind the Sea Kings with a 25-19, 25-22, 24-26, 25-20 victory at Laguna Hills High. Laurie Goodman dished out 36 assists for Beckman, who will host University Tuesday before ending the regular season on the road against Corona del Mar.
In the Freeway League:
No. 6 Troy 3, La Habra 0: The host Warriors continued their dominant league run with a 25-20, 25-13, 25-14 sweep of the Highlanders. Juliana Crum led Troy with 18 kills, while Jacquie Brice had 33 assists and Kirstyn Lee 25 digs.
In the South Coast League
No. 8 San Clemente 3, Mission Viejo 0: Behind 35 combined kills from Molly Yoder, Danielle Van Liefde, and Erin Talafus, along with 38 assists from Chelsea Heier, the Tritons (15-8; 8-0) recorded a home sweep of the Diablos (12-11; 5-3) 25-14, 28-26, 25-17. Sophia Rowe led Mission Viejo with seven kills, while Kyra Goodman added 21 assists.
In the Trinity League:
No. 9 Orange Lutheran 3, Rosary 0: The Lances (21-6, 5-2) swept the Royals 25-19, 25-15, 25-19 at Orange Lutheran High.
In the Sea View League:
Huntington Beach 3, Northwood 0: Haleigh Hampton, Andrea Streips, and Kellie Turner each had 11 kills, as the first place Oilers (13-10; 6-2) swept the Timberwolves 25-12, 25-13, 25-18 at Huntington Beach High. Kelsey Groot and Katrina Doherty each had nine kills for Northwood.
El Toro 3, Woodbridge 0: Kacie Benson had a team-high 13 kills as the second place Chargers (15-10; 5-3) swept the Warriors 25-19, 25-10, 25-16 at Woodbridge High.
Trabuco Hills 3, Foothill 2: Rachel Flynn and Karli Thompson each produced 12 kills, as the Mustangs (12-10, 4-4) rallied from a 2-1 deficit to edge the Knights (10-12, 3-5) in five sets 25-27, 27-25, 23-25, 25-14, 21-19 at Trabuco Hills. Kassi Anast led Foothill with 19 kills, while Janessa Lee added 11 kills and 10 blocks.
In the Empire League:
Valencia 3, Kennedy 2: Casey Hinger had 35 kills, while Hannah Swaney added 15 kills, as the Tigers (12-12; 6-2) rallied to pull out a 24-26, 25-16, 22-25, 28-26, 18-16 win over the Fighting Irish at Valencia High.
In the Garden Grove League:
Garden Grove 3, La Quinta 2: The first place and undefeated Argonauts (12-2, 8-0) received 15 kills from Kayla Bowen, as they rallied from a 2-1 deficit to beat the Aztecs (7-6, 4-4) 24-26, 25-13, 23-25, 25-20, 15-11 at Garden Grove High.
Rancho Alamitos 3, Los Amigos 2: The Vaqueros survived a stiff challenge from the Lobos, winning in five 25-15, 24-26, 25-16, 15-25, 15-12 at Rancho Alamitos High.
