NO. 7 LOS ALAMITOS (6-1, 1-1) VS. NO. 1 EDISON (7-0, 2-0)

Where, when: Huntington Beach High, Friday, 7 p.m.

Outlook: Los Alamitos has a new quarterback, Dylan Lagarde, a sophomore in-season transfer from Long Beach Poly, but that probably won’t make a difference in this game. Edison looks good enough to go 5-0 in the Sunset League, which would be quite an accomplishment, and just might be this year’s Pac-5 Division champion (with Mission Viejo right there with the Chargers, and don’t overlook Servite and Lakewood).

Los Alamitos, which lost to Newport Harbor two weeks ago, has an excellent defense but Edison presents just too many matchup problems with county leading passer Matt Viles at quarterback, Wade Houston at running back, and a fine receiving corps led by Mike Rivera and Jeff Trojan. Los Al lost to Newport Harbor by three points, and Edison beat Newport by 28.

Winner: Edison

Frankly Fryer: Valencia vs. Kennedy

Frankly Fryer: San Clemente vs. Tesoro

Frankly Fryer: Fountain Valley vs. Newport Harbor

Frankly Fryer: Villa Park vs. El Dorado

Frankly Fryer: Orange vs. Segerstrom

Frankly Fryer: Mater Dei vs. JSerra

As a big hs football fan, I'm concerned whether or not the Los Al players can focus enough on the task at hand, after what has to be an unnerving distraction the past ten days or so. If they can turn the events surrounding their QB situation into a rallying cry, then we could be witnesses to a tremendous ballgame, otherwise we may be viewing a blowout. This could be a defining moment for Coach Barnes, no doubt. Good luck to both teams.

  • yeah buddy says:

im very familiar with the Los Al football team and i can guarantee you that the whole situation with the new QB will not be a problem at all.

    • Rick Kane says:

Edison is the problem. I wish the new QB luck.
The only way it becomes a defining moment for Coach Barnes is if the Griffins win, not likely.

  • FootballFun says:

highly doubt there will be a blowout... Los Al respects Edison's Offense... but does Edison respect Los Al's defense...

  • anonymous says:

    Edison.

    Period.

  • bighsfootballfan says:

    Well said anonymous.............................period!!

  • last word says:

If los als injured safety # 22 comes back and they can get edison off balance with some blitz schemes on defense and drop the backers when they don't blitz they have a chance. If on offense they can run the ball and keep edison's offense off the field and I don't mean 3 runs and pass I mean run it till they stop it ,same play and use number #3.#7 #2, 21 blast 26 power until they stop it los al will win by 3

  • superman says:

edison has never faced a defense like los als and edison dosent respect them and that will be thr downfall los al will win by 7

  • AJ says:

edison will be ready to play, will not be any let downs, edison by 13

  • last word says:

los al was not ready to play football against newport ,alot of standing around ,receivers getting illegal procedure calls, arm tackling, ect, they will be ready to play tommorrow, right Mr. Barnes?

  • Wow.............well i guess stranger things have happened, so what your saying last word is IF and IF and IF and IF and IF AND IF, ok i hear ya IF ya want whats really gonna happen pleas refer to anonymous..........................PERIOD!!!

  • i told you so says:

Edison vs Los Al always comes down the the final minutes of the last quarter and as long as i can remember Los Al always comes out on top. nothing rallies Los Al like a fluke loss in league. i predict a share in sunset like usual. los al edging out edison and edison taking care of the rest of the league.

  • keeping it real says:

Edison is too talented to lose this game. They have so many weapons, you take away the passing game hand off to Houston and he cuts you up. Put 8 in the box like dana hills did and you get 400 yards of passing dealt to you. Los Al will not win this game. Edison is on a mission.

    • i told you so says:

when do you see los al with 8 in the box? other than when they use to play againt HB or when they play against marina who are not known for passing the ball. Los Al knows how to play against Edison so im still calling this a Los Al victory by a squeaker.

  • last word says:

I'll give another if,if EDISON CAN'T STOP THE RUN IT'S GOING TO BE ALONG NITE!

  • Well Ill give you another if....If Edison only throws for 275 yards they win by 10, IF tey throw for 400 they win by 30......................

  • 2002tony says:

Edison just about ave 35 points a game. I dont see why they wont score at least 31 in this game. (4 TD and a field goal.)

Los Al basically has a new QB who will see a defensive unit that is way better than anything he or his team mates have faced so far. 17 points for Los Al is my guess.

    31-17 Edison

  • keeping it real says:

Los Al 10 Edison 34. I called last weeks game against harbor at 34-7 turned out 34-6 look it up.

  • no name says:

    edison wins 38-10

  • no name says:

    period!!!

  • nosoup4yu says:

Los Al seems to make Edison nervous. Last few years Chargers have 2-3 fumbles, picks, poor snaps of FG's, etc. Edison has often had the better team but very poor record vs. Griffs. Won't matter here. Sure LA tailback's as big as a Hobbit but can burn up the track if he gets room. They need 200+ yards from him to have a chance. Griffs haven't seen a team like the Chargers but they've seen Los Al quality 2-3 times already. To many weapons for Chargers. Good luck Griff DB's - You'll need it I think. Edison by 14-20.

  • UHWarrior says:

This another great match-up in the sunset league. I would have said that this game will be for the league championship, but.....they both have Fountain Valley on their schedules coming up. Beating FV is not going to be easy.

Los Al's new QB is a better athlete and passer than D. Cook, and this is what Los Al needs to beat Edison. I actually think that Los Al is a better team now than when they beat La Habra and Narbonne. It still may not be enough to beat Edison though. Los Al needs some luck to take this one, but I'm guessing they are going to rally around their new quarterback and upset Edison, 34- 28. (Hey, anybody can pick the favorite, so I'm going out on a limb)

Truly the only team in the OC who can match-up against Edison is Mission V, I hope they meet in the playoffs.

  • keeping it real says:

Edison will force los al to play one way. They will take away the running game and force them to throw which isnt Los Al's game. If you saw the Servite game they forced Servite to pass a lot more then they were comfortable with. Same thing will happen to Los Al, and my statement about them putting 8 in the box is how they are gonna have to shut down one aspect of Edison's attack which still wont happen cause Edison is five receivers deep so they will just pass over the top of that front and force them to rush 4 then wade houston will get rolling and pick up his 100 yard a game continuing the streak and picking up the W.
