Best games on the Week 7 schedule:
No. 6 Orange Lutheran (3-3, 1-0) vs. No. 19 JSerra (6-0, 1-0)
Friday at Orange Coast College, 7:30 p.m.
Outlook: The Lions took their first big step in the Trinity League with their 14-12 victory over Santa Margarita. They’re ranked in the top 10 in the latest CIF-SS Pac-5 Division rankings and they’re inside the top 20 in the county.
What’s next? Can a second league victory happen as soon as this week?
The Lions have allowed only one team to score more than 15 points and they’re allowing opponents to score 12.6 points a game. Quarterback Bobby Brown hasn’t been messing around. He has rushed for 342 yards and five touchdowns and he has passed for 12. Running back Tyler Shirozono leads the ground attack with 613 yards.
Orange Lutheran is coming off of an emotional 28-25 victory over Mater Dei. Quarterback Mike Markovsky had his best night since he has been filling in for starter Bobby Wheatley. Markovsky completed 19 of 24 passes for 256 yards and three touchdowns. He also rushed for a score.
The Lancers also received a big spark with the return of All-County linebacker Garret Gilliland.
Things are starting to get back to normal for the Lancers. But will the Lions pull off another upset?

The most recent CIF-SS Pac-5 Division rankings were based mainly on how many wins a team had, not taking into consideration strength of schedule or power defense/offense. JSerra had a weak schedule its first six games so it was easy to get into the Top 10. They are not even close to the top ten on any other national or state or regional ranking system. You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you’re not fooling anyone here. Santa Margarita was their toughest opponent, and it was a good and FAIR win for them. When they win FAIR they’ll earn respect. But they won’t get respect with fake top ten appearances. That said, Santa Margarita isn’t anywhere the caliber as Lutheran this year. So if JSerra really wants to prove themselves….BEAT lutheran.
Markovski is the second-coming of Coach Kunau’s option playbook. If he gets the start at QB, look for Lutheran to over-power the Lions on both sides of the ball.
Could this be the 4th loss of the year for OLu??? Probably not but still they are way over-rated meaning they should not bein top-ten with 3 losses, so if they wannna earn some respect from me they better blow this team out can they?? will they??? i think not OLu 35 Serra28
dont worry lions, we get the same crap from these guys down here in the lesser divisions. just keep doing what your doing. j serra 6-0 come sat morning, just watch.
They’re 6-0 now. They said they were legit last year, and went 0-5 in league. Are they better? Yes. Are they a top-25 team? Ask again in four weeks. Give them credit for doing well, but SM is no OLu. And OLu isn’t the best team in league. My prediction? OLu 35, JS 10.
this game is about to be close im tellin u olu cant stop the pass and they couldnt do it this summer against this same js team i know it a big difference….im not saying js has arrived and they know they have to beat either mater dei, olu or servite to get rep, so trust me they are well coached and they will come out and give olu a game and remember they are all juniors with a few sophomores it will be a game
no offense to JSerra but I have to ask. Is this really about how good JSerra has gotten or more of how far Santa Margarita has fallen? JSerra every year goes 5-0 before league and you have to figure they would sqeek out a W before too much longer.
I suppose we will know the answer soon.
OLu – 32 JS – 14 (They score on OLu’s 2nd and 3rd team every year.)
The Trinity has lost it’s dominance this year. Sunset and South Coast are the ones to beat.
