bout time La Habra’s up there

    • Country says:

      bout time ?

They’ve been up there all season. Last week was the only exception.

I like the list. Everything seems right. The only questionable spots would be VP over ElDo. It should be the other way around. Because that’s how it’ll be when they play, ElDo over VP.

    BRING ON LA HABRA!!

CIF CHAMPIONSHIP GAME: Cypress vs La Habra

    LINE SIX!!

  • dude says:

    what does line 6 mean?

    • CYPfan says:

its the sixth line of an eight-line poem we LIVE BY!! its that serious haha. Line Six is like the motto at our school. it holds all people from cypress together.

      We are the Cypress Centurions,
      together, united and strong,
      ready to fight our battles,
      striving to be number one.
      We are the Cypress Centurions,
      A TEAM AND A FAMILY (Line 6)
      We live and die together,
And champions we will always be.

      • nah dude!!!! says:

I wonder how your guys poem turned your program around. Back then before Fenton came, you guys would lose like 60-0(I may be exaggerating) against Valencia and Orange Lutheran when O-Lu was still in the great Empire League, but evantually streaks will end. Enjoy it while it still lasts

        • Centurion says:

i wouldn’t say “the poem turned our program around”
that just does not make sense.
its just something to honor and respect and live by.
and we take it very seriously.

        • nah dude!!!! says:

Alright fine, Fenton coming back and re-introducing the poem back because like some of the Cypress people said, after Selbe left, the poem was not really carried on by Selbes replacement. Prety much Fenton wanted to keep Selbes tradition going so there you go

  • Irish says:

a line from the chant stolen from Kennedy

    • Centurion says:

      are you kidding me?!?
Coach Selbe is a Cypress guy through and through. It was introduced at Cypress first. And since Coach Selbe wrote it, and the Offensive Coordinator at Cypress, former head coach, and his boys went there, and his wife went there and it is as prevalent as ever at Cypress, Line Six is a Cypress thing, always has been, always will be.
And its not a chant, its a poem, but you wouldn’t know that…would you??
Typical Kennedy Irish, always want to be more like Cypress.
And ill end by saying…LINE SIX CYPRESS!!

  • Leonidas says:

Its some saying they have i think its weird but hey they get it done..but were you guys representing line 6 in the early 00′s when you guys sucked ass?? Idk but true fans would cuz back then line six represented the number of games they would lose in a season.

    • okay, maybe you should know the history of LINE SIX before you start attacking Cypress fans here. It was written in 1976 by Coach John Selbe. He was the head coach of Cypress and into the 80s. When he left Cypress as the head coach, the guy who took the job did not carry on the Line Six tradition. Before Selbe left, one of his players back in those days was current Head Coach Ray Fenton and Fenton also became one of Selbe’s assistant coaches as well. So like I said, Line Six “went away” when Selbe left Cypress (Fenton and the rest of the staff left with him, they are a very loyal group) Then when Fenton came back in 2005, he brought LIne Six back to Cypress as you can hear it being said and see it written all over the proud Cypress campus. It is not just a line we like to say, it is everything. Line Six means a lot to all people who wear those colors. It’s not a sometimes thing its an all the time thing. So don’t say we aren’t true fans, we are as true, proud and loyal as they come. There is nothing like a Cypress fan. we are, “a team and a family.” we are Line Six.

  • bighsfootballfan says:

Cypress is not a bad football team but…….La Habra,Tustin,Trabuc,, ElD, El Toro and Fullerton would beat them, they are in soft league, a soft schedule overall and arent ready to really compete with the above mentioned team. its just the way it is and they will not go beyond the 2nd round of the playoffs, just not there yet but i do admire the support their community and fans are giving and that always helps so with all that being said Kudos to them and the fans and i hope they keep it rolling!!!

    • stu pidasso says:

Will anyone compete with LH or Tustin During league play?

      • Country says:

“Will anyone compete with LH or Tustin During league play?”

        Yep.

La Habra’s strongest challenger in league will be Fullerton. Why ? Because they’ll manage to keep La Habra from scoring 60+. They’ll still get beat by 40+ though .

Tustin still has ElDo & a much improved VP to deal with. ElDo presents a variety of problems. Balanced offense and a stingy defense. With VP, it’s their defense. Last week we did alright against Canyon. Our defense was in it the entire game. Offense was on fire from the get go. But lost some steam in the 2nd half. I’m expecting them to take it out on VP this week to make up for last week’s 2nd half mishaps.

        With the other leagues …….

Cypress’s biggest league challenge is Pacifica who seems to be recovering from their non league injuries.

Trabuco faced their biggest challenge last week with El Toro. Foothill could be a challenge if only their defense would show up to play.

Western’s strongest league challenge is Savanna it seems.

        • TRIBE PRIDE says:

FULLERTON HAS NEVER BEEN BEAT BY LA HABRA OF 40+, SO IF YOU DONT KNOW ITS BETTER TO KEEP YOUR COMMENTS TO MORE KNOWLEDGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOUR TUSTIN AGAINST FULLERTON IN THE PLAYOFFS, AND SEE WHAT YOUR GUYS ARE MADE OF…………..

    • whatshisname says:

not so sure . lets not get to cocky like those pac 5 snobs. cypress has been on a roll since close game wiyj mater dei. give em props for that, and remember when we sched pac 5s and played them tough what it did for boys cnfidence, and lok at results, finally beat sclem so yes I think their better than all except top 2 and might beat tustin if paired up in playoffs

    • mo says:

Big ,come on now… use your head. Cyp had a chance to beat M.D. on the final play of the game and you are declaring that they can’t beat L.H., Tus, Trabuco, Ful, etc. etc. Not serious are you? You make NO sense.

  • UHwarrior says:

I too believe that Cypress is the class of the Empire league this year, easily making the playoffs. However, La Habra, Tustin, THills, and El Do are still the teams to beat. If it wasn’t for La Habra, I believe the Southwest Div champs would be coming from the Century league it’s tough in that mix.

  • TRIBE PRIDE says:

FULLERTON IS GOING TO COMPETE VS LA HABRA FOR THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JUST REMEMBER THAT GAME IS GOING TO BE PLAYED AT FULLERTON HIGH… WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME FULLERTON LOST TO LA HABRA AT FULLERTON??? NOT JUST THAT I HAVE TO SAY LA HABRA IS REALLY STRONG WHEN THEY PLAY AT THEIR HOME FIELD BUT SO IS FULLERTON WHEN THEY PLAY AT HOME!!!!!!!!!! FULLERTON IS BEEN WAITING TO HOST THIS GAME… FOR THOSE SPECTATORS THAT DONT KNOW THE RIVALRY BETWEEN LA HABRA VS. FULLERTON BOTH SIDED OF THE FANS “COMMUNITY”"CITY” CANT WAIT FOR THIS GAME EVERY YEAR, FULLERTON HATES LA HABRA WITH PASSION BUT SO DOES LA HABRA, WHO EVER WINS THIS GAME, IS GOING TO BE THE TEAM THAT PUTS PRIDE,HONOR, AND LOVE FOR THEIR SCHOOL AND THEIR FANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOOD LUCK TO BOTH TEAMS, STAY HEALTHY FOR THE MAIN SHOWDOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BOTW TOWNS ARE GOING TO STOP THEIR DAILY LIFES WHEN THESE TWO TEAMS COLLAPSED……………….JUST REMEBER LA HABRA FANS, WHERE THIS GAME IS BEING HELD AT??? CAUSE IT AINT GOING TO BE PRETTY FOR YOU GUYS!!!!!!!! FULLERTON ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • No Love? says:

Lol … okay! heard that last year and the year before that!

    • Papa Z says:

Yes please don’t talk about the Indians in such a positive light. You people talked such a big game last year and got smashed in the playoffs, I mean smashed. Do your kids a favor and let them play their game so it’s not so embarrasing when they get smashed again in the playoffs.

    • Marie says:

The last time that La Habra and Fullerton played at Fullerton HS was in 2005…..

      11/04/05: LHHS won 34-7 @ FHS

10/26/07: game canceled due to smoke
12/07/07: LHHS won 16-6 @ Santa Ana Stadium CIF Finals

  • DT says:

Tustin v. Villa Park this thursday should shine a light on who is real, and who is not.

  • whatshisname says:

same old tribe, wishing they could hold the clans jock straps. I mean you guys can make it your biggest game ever and all youll accomplish is a flood of tears so make sure your drainage systems are cleaned out because it will be like a monsoon. what do you bring to the table that makes you think your any better than your 23 county ranking. so you got a kid from servite whos a decent lb.whats the rest of team bring.a qb that averages 50 yds a game. you can think you can run with hill but really what has he done against good competition,oh thats right you havent played any. oh and I hear your the same trash talking midget thugs you allways are with some personal fouls at end of troy game ,what was that all about.

  • Country says:

“FULLERTON HAS NEVER BEEN BEAT BY LA HABRA OF 40+”

    How about 34+ ?

“I WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOUR TUSTIN AGAINST FULLERTON IN THE PLAYOFFS, AND SEE WHAT YOUR GUYS ARE MADE OF…………..”

After comparing the results of common opponents this season so far. I highly doubt that you would want to see any of Tustin.

Geez what is it with you Fullerton guys. You get a Servite transfer and all the sudden think the SW title goes through you guys.

    • Papa Z says:

They beat Canyon by one point. That’s not anything to brag about. I would love to see Fullerton against Tustin too. I want to hear the same excuses they had when they were smashed by Canyon last year…twice.

    • the.kid says:

im a LH fan, and seeing tustin play last year was pretty scary. You can anticipate the run, its just easier said then done to tackle the run. Yes, LH got the job done, thanks to many hours they spent watching game feeds. Just watch out what you wish for, it wont be pretty.

As for the LH vs Fullerton game. Its always a great rivalry. Playing away for LH is like playing at the Pit for them. The fans make the journeys to where ever the game maybe. Sometimes out numbering the home teams fans.

  • FREEWAYFAN says:

When was the last time that La Habra lost to Fullerton? I can’t remember. Fullerton is under some kind of allusion that there is a big rivalry there. Troy is the only team in the Freeway league to put up a fight in the Freeway League since Mazzota has been at La Habra. Fullerton fans think there is a rivalry there just because you managed to get Troy to forfeit all of there games a couple of years ago, and then some how managed to win a coin toss, get an undeserved #1 seed, and finally managed to get through a very week side of the playoff bracket, only to get handled by a better La Habra team. Once again, La Habra will own Fullerton, even at that poor excuse for a football stadium. Maybe La Habra should sit on the home side of the stadium this year so we dont have so many people standing at the game. As always I am sure that we will have more people there than you anyways.

  • Indian Fan says:

Once again such gibberish from the ignorant.
FREEWAYFAN(obviously a Troy fan), will never let go of the mess that THEIR coaches created. Scoreboard baby. BTW, it’s spelled, i l l u s i o n.
And thanks to the dilligent research by Marie, you can see that although the Indians have lost to the mighty – oh so mighty, Highlanders… the largest point spread was 28, 4 YEARS AGO. The year they met in CIF, the Indians were the ONLY team that was able to hold La Habra to 16 – Westminster held them to 21.
It will be a great game to watch – let the boys play — leave all this trash talk at your booster club meetings.

    • Southwest Div. Fan says:

      Indian Fan,

Sounds like you’re the one that needs to ‘pump your brakes’ with the trash talking. Let History be what it is and look forward to the game.

    • stu pidasso says:

Got 2 words for Fullerton Football Coaching Staff BIGGEST LOSER, That coaching staff should promote a healthier eating habits (pretty sad) when you expect your players to be in top shape,(they are not a very good example),not saying they as coaches should be in shape , but please no excuse for being that overweight…….

    • Illusion says:

Fullerton is a bottomline classless program. You wait till Troy beats the snot out of you to call foul on their transfer? Great message to your kids. Indian Fan your obviously a student/football player, shouldnt you be more worried about who your playing next week than whos trash talking on some website?

    • Centurion says:

      HEY!! be nice to Marie!!

  • UHwarrior says:

I agree with Indian Fan, leave the trash talking at your Booster meetings. Frankly I like LH but I would love to see Fullerton compete with LH every year, it makes for a stronger league and better division.

To be honest, hearing that LH pounded Buena Park 62-0 and that they instituted the mercy rule and ended the game early, doesn’t look good in the CIF rankings. The Freeway league is only as strong as its members. It’s embarrassing, not only for BP, but for the league in general.

But, it’s no fault of LH I had heard that most of the BP pounding came at the hands of LH’s second team. The competition needs to get better in order to get more respect in CIF. The Freeway league is weak with exception of LH and Fullerton. The Century, Empire, and Sea View league are more competitive. I’d love to see LH and Fullerton go into the final game both undefeated.

  • whatshisname says:

you guys ought to be thankfull for the running clock this year. and what happend against troy last week, heard there was a little tustle toward the end.

  • prefan03 says:

i cant believe troy is ranked #9. they only scored 10 points on fullerton. after the first quarter of play, it was all fullerton. Troy had no answer for Hill, and their offense couldnt move the chains.

  • UHwarrior says:

Whatshis- you’re right about being thankful for the running clock and the mercy rule, could you imagine the shallacking the freeway league would have taken in the press if the LH hung 80+ points against BP? The league would have become the laughing stock of the Southwest Div.

  • Canyondad says:

Out of all the ranking systems this CIF SW one is the most out of whack after the top 4 or 5.

Better picture of true ranking are at MAX Preps and Cal Preps. I think CALPREPS has the best take on the SW Division.

    • Country says:

      Thanks for the links.

I don’t know about Calpreps ranking having the best take on this division. For one, they have Kennedy at 8. Kennedy is more of a 11-13 team right now. They could be a 8 team if they hang with Cypress and beat everyone else in league.

The one thing that Calpreps doesn’t have that these ranking have is the coaches, Steve Fryer’s and maybe some other writers input.

  • clan91 says:

Fullerton held Lh to 16 in the finals a couple of years ago, more like the rainy weather did. Fullerton has always talked the biggest trash with nothing to show for it. Once again their bubble will be popped.

  • lhfan says:

If the finals r lh tustin it will come down to if lh can stay with early and wear out two way players of tustin i see josh having big 4th quarter but its along way off

  • clan91 says:

La Habra wore down Tustin last year. They’ll do it again this year. Stopping Tustin comes down to wilkerson vs. the safety. LH has 3- guys they can rotate in. So come 4th qtr you will see wilkerson out of gas again. Clan Pride

    • hs fan#2 says:

if they can do what Mr. Arteaga did, then they win for sure. but its a test for the safties and the Db coach. they have alot of work from what i saw from the los al game. I didnt attend the san clem game, so i wouldnt know if they learned from there mistakes. but Go clan!!

  • UHwarrior says:

Offenses win games, Defenses win championships. I was at last years Southwest Championship and the playoffs. There is no doubt that La Habra had the tougher bracket to claw through than Tustin. La Habra’s defense was stout all year and they beat Tustin with Defense. (It didn’t hurt LH having Thunder and lightening in the backfield either)

So far the best defense I’ve seen in the Freeway league and the Southwest Div is La Habra’s. (Although I haven’t watched Cypress yet). I can easily see LH winning a third CIF division championship. It seems league play for LH is just a warm up for the play-offs.

  • Craig says:

Does anybody know what kind of injury Aaron Porter Linebacker for La Habdra suffered against San Clemente? Is he back playing or out for the season?

  • clan91 says:

Aaron broke his leg and tore a ligament in his ankle. Out for the season. Kid will be a monster next year.

    • Craig says:

Thank you! I was at the game but on the San Clemente side of the field and it looked like they put a splint on him but wasn’t sure? It’s a shame because he was very physical and had a good motor for being so young. Also good size to plug up the running game.

  • revenrico says:

I WOULD LIKE TO ADD MY SAY BUT CYPFAMILY AND FANS SAID IT ALL WE ARE FAMILY AND WE ARE STRONGE [[LINE 6 ALLL WAYSSSS]] WIN OR LOSE WE STICK TOGETHER AND THAT ALONE MAKES A WINNERS[[WE ARE STRONGE WE ARE FAMILY FOREVER

    • CypChick says:

So true. No matter the outcome of any game. We stand by Line Six and remember what it is we believe in. I would rather LOSE in that might orange and blue than WIN in any other colors. I, as is everyone in Cypress, am so proud to be a part of Line Six. And all these people on here can say what they want about us “Cypress fans,” but we don’t listen. As Line 2 says…”together, united and strong.” you can bet we are and you can bet that when we take the field against any other team, we will be (as line 3 say) “ready to fight our battles. Line 6 is THE line. But all 8 lines of that poem are important. We will stand by our boys!!

      oh yeah…and BEAT THE IRISH!!

going from a cypress supporter the past couple weeks to this???????
whatshisname?????……..im sad to see this post?
      why the change of heart?

But i can see how these cypress fans can be a little annoying …. kinda remind you of red sox fans dont they?
when winning everything is great, when losing the world is falling apart.

Cypress is good this year, but they need to stay grounded!

  • whatshisname says:

cypress good this year ,but needs to stay grounded. exactly. I still think they are good and depending how rest of league goes and how their paired in their bracket should make some noise and surprize alot of tustin faithful. I stick with my call that they are the 3rd best in sw div based on record and who they had beat til final minutes. but Im also saying dony get to cockey especially with kennedy who has along and storied history of excellence. I go way back to the old freeway when the Irish were year end and year out best in AAA football. and when every thing changed they have never let up allways solid just like this year,so keep it real line 6 because that game will define your season , not pacifica.

  • UHwarrior says:

Whathis- I seem to be agreeing with you again, hmm…

But you’re right Cypress is good, but they’ll have to get by Kennedy to win league.

  • cypkenalum21 says:

kennedy will struggle with cypress this year..last year the irish biggest success came from andy petersons feet. if he is contained i dont see the irish scoring more than a couple field goals on the cents. there is no one in the empire league with the vision of ak as a running back and with the blocking from big Jamil Douglas thats easily a 4 yard gain each carry. ihave seen both teams play and for the irish to win they need to teach their olbs and dbs to have a better center of gravity or else they will be icing thier ankles at the end of the game.

  • whatshisname says:

your right. line 6 has the stud runningback. my question is hoqs their db’s. from box scores Ive seen kennedy seems to be a decent passing team.

  • L6 says:

Whatshis. where have you seen any cyp fans bragging about how were going to smash on Kennedy OR Pacifica. All we do is have faith in our boys. Theres not a post on this article talking down on the Leps or the Mariners. If anyone needs to stay grounded on here its the Indian Fan. We just do what we do and thats it. and Cyp’s DB’s are very good. We competed with some of the Top schools in OC (edison, tesoro, los al, LH) in passing league, beating tesoro and los al handily. However PL is still PL. its a different game when you put the pads on. but this is a battle tested group.

    • whatshisname says:

answr to you quetion, its not what you say its how you say it, and I hope you secondary remembers what to do since its been along time since passing league. I dont know , amybe im just getting senial but the coach at kennedy back in old freeway was some what of passing guru, and kennedy allways shows good numbers in box scores.

      • Line 6 Girl says:

haha ok ok. we’ll see how well you guys do against the Orange and Blue when the stage is set. Its only a few weeks away.

        “passing guru” vs “Line Six”

I know who I am picking to win that one!!

  • not a big football fan says:

shouldnt BP be mentioned in the rankings. they held la habra under 70 points. jk about mentioning BP. Hard to believe that their were many saying that BP was gonna be undefeated this season.

  • baller says:

Hey everybody, ” All Hail LaHabra “. Aren’t they just the greatest, wow!
Better watch out Pac-5 here they come to defeat you all. After all they have won 3 or 4 or 10 div 4 championships. Oh yeah and just beat the mighty Tritons, ( even tho SC got demode by Santa Fe ), but thats ok because have you seen their field? OMG! I mean it is so incredible.
especially those cool retro 1960 wood goal posts and antique bleachers and press box. The blind actually come there so they might see again. And all those Div 1 players they produce, who are they again? Oh yeah Hillman! Oh sorry. Well he only cheated alittle on his SATs, that shouldn’t have counted against a Highlander. Anyway now he gets to play for another famous Mazzota at Cerritos, how special. Yes all Hail to the world

  • THSW says:

    Hillman out at SDS

  • Dooglemom says:

Just got done reading blogs, now I know why people say the only thing wrong with youth sports is the adults, can’t we just go to the games and enjoy watching the great competition of these student athletes, then we wonder why there is so much trash talk and chest pumping, read these comments of the so called role models, I admire all these athletes, but high school sports could sure use some better rolemodels

  • Truth says:

La Habra has the best coaches in Orange County. Year after year, they create championship teams from mediocre players. You don’t really hear about too many college or professional athletes from La Habra. Fullerton remains a good team DESPITE poor coaching. This is because their talented players. Swap teams and Mazzota leads Fullerton to a state title. Smilowitz leads La Habra to Buena Park status because he’d have no real players to make bad plays look good.
